Politics I know what I’m doing next Friday

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Wed, May 31 at 4:17 PM

Al Gore’s movie, An Inconvenient Truth, opens that night—I’m there. But what’s even better than a movie about global warming? Drinking with a bunch of lefties before the show!

From Progressive Happy Hour

Next Friday, June 9 - Party with Al Gore (sort of)

That’s right, we’ve scheduled an extra-special bonus Progressive Happy Hour. Why? Because we can. And, because it’s the opening night for Al Gore’s movie, An Inconvenient Truth.

So here’s the deal:

5:00 Progressive Happy Hour - at Momo, 725 SW 10th (back in the secret outdoor patio).
7:30 An Inconvenient Truth - at the Fox Tower, 846 SW Park Ave.

We’ll walk over together, just three blocks.

I’m reserving my seats now.

Gore's looking so strong now that he's not pandering. I'm getting the impression that he was the "Paris Hilton" (everywhere, all the time, having fun) at this year's Cannes Film Festival with An Inconvenient Truth. I want to vote for Hillary in '08 'cause I think America needs a strong female leader in the executive branch, and she, despite the hawkishness on Iraq and the love of free trade, will probably be my only viable choice, but goddamnit if old Al ain't looking better than ever...

Gore's killin' it these days.

What is up with Gore? I mean why the fuck could he not muster any of the panache we see in this movie in 2000? The clips I’ve seen show a relaxed, even funny Gore. Christ, I mean look at the stiff cardboard cut out that ran in 2000, you have to wonder if it’s the same man. I know, I know, he really did win in 2000, but I think if we had this Al then, it would not have come down to a fight in FL. On that note, I’m now depressed as hell. Seeing even short clips of Al makes me think of what might have been.

David Remnick, the editor of the New Yorker, was on the radio the other day talking about Gore, and talking about how his wooden performance in 2000 wasn't an anomoly. Turns out, when Gore ran for the Democratic nomination in 1988, he put all of his charisma in a lock box, just like in 2000.

If he runs in 2008, will the same thing happen? Can Gore only be a great presidential candidate when he's not actually running? Discuss.
