Acting Police Chief Rosie Sizer has given former Chief Derrick Foxworth her old job as commander of the South East Precinct, following his reinstatement after the three month misconduct inquiry.

The move is part of a fullblown shake-up of the Portland Police Bureau by Sizer involving more than a dozen changes across all departments, which appears to pave the way for her formal installation as Chief since taking over on a temporary basis from Foxworth in April. Sizer was spotted breaking the news to some staff on a cellphone outside the Central Precinct building early this morning. Read all about it after the jump…
In an internal memo this morning to Bureau members, she said: "The Police Bureau has been through a tumultuous time. It is time to move forward and I want you to know that I have spent considerable time looking at what's best for the organization and have made command assignments accordingly."
Other notable moves are the promotion of Mike Reese (currently captain of the Drugs and Vice division) to Central Precinct Commander, to replace Dave Benson who becomes commander of the Tactical Operations Division in a sideways move. James Ferraris, currently Assistant Chief of Investigations, will become Commander of the North Precinct replacing Cliff Madison who moves over to command the Detective Division, while Derrick Foxworth takes over the South East Precinct from Acting Commander Sara Westbrook.
Asked after delivering the Foxworth verdict last Thursday whether he felt Acting Chief Sizer had overstepped her authority in already making key changes to the Bureau's staff, Mayor Tom Potter said: "I feel the Acting Chief of Police should have the same power as the Chief of Police and I communicated that [to Rosie Sizer] when she was given the job."
While the role of Chief is officially still up for grabs it appears Sizer will not be pulling any punches in the mean time, and it is difficult to see how a different future Chief could come in and initiate another such shake-up in short time.
