Portland Hollywood Hearts Fresh Pot

Posted by Chas Bowie on Thu, Jul 20 at 3:47 PM

You heard it here first—the Fresh Pot on N Mississippi is going to be the main location for a new Hollywood movie. The owner/manager in the film? Greg Kinnear. The valued customer who marvels over the latte art morning after morning? Morgan Freeman. Here’s what Fresh Pot GM Michael Brooks had to say about the whole thing:

It’s official… our cafe is the main location for a big Hollywood movie, “The Feast of Love,” starring Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear. Our Mississippi shop will be the coffeeshop owned by Greg Kinnear’s character and the movie itself will be set in Portland. When the actors arrive, we’ll take them to the Stumptown Roastery to see everything that goes on and then to the Annex for a cupping, followed by an evening session at the Fresh Pot on latte art. The production company (Lakeshore Entertainment) is interested in highlighting the NW coffee scene so hopefully folks around the country will get to see beautiful artisan style drinks instead of giant caffeinated slushies from the big green monster. We’ll be out of our space for about 2 weeks but we’ll have a cart and outdoor seating set up across the street so that we can still serve our customers. This is going to bring in a lot of money to the street and to the city and we’re pretty excited about showcasing our coffee scene on a national stage.

Way to go, Fresh Pot! You’ve done us proud.

oh nos!! mississippi is going to become even more hip and all the middleclass white kids will have to bitch even more about how the black community is being pushed out by other white people moving there!!... wait... irony?

I know. I hate when crackhead neighborhoods are transformed into pedestrian-friendly centers of locally-owned businesses. That being said, does anybody else think that Fresh Pot needs to turn their music down?

I will not have my neighborhood "Kinnearified"... "Gregified"?

Morgan Freeman, the last black man on NE Mississippi.

They will have plenty of free wifi (Person Telco Project has unwired the whole strip of Mississippi) to keeep in touch with the nonpdx world.

Greg Kinnear had better be nice to me when i almost run him over on my bike or in my car on my way to work every morning. I'm just thanking god they didn't pick my favorite cafe, Blue Gardenia. I'd hate to see it get all hollywood.

If the gorram movie traffic blocks my access to Blue Gardenia, I will be v. v. grumpy.

most importantly.. they are making a movie out of one of the greatest novels ever. if you haven't read it, you should.
The Feast of Love by Charles Baxter.

It is NORTH Mississippi not NE... you southwest hills dipstick.

While I love me some Fresh Pot on N Mississippi, please someone tell me when this is happening so I can avoid that street like the plague. I cannot wait to hear the gossips though.

I guess I will have to sneak in and ruin scenes if I wanna shop at Mississippi Records. I love pissing off PA's.

An update from Michael at Fresh Pot:

"They start prepping our space at the end of this month and then filming will wrap on our space during the second week of August, depending on how they do each day...
They'll be filming all around Portland but a majority of the action takes place in the coffeeshop. I'm sure during the next few weeks you'll hear more about it. But so far, it's been pretty positive, the film company is really working with us to ensure continued service to our customers and I know that they've already dropped a ton of money at SameUnderneath around the corner from us (maybe even using them for wardrobe...)

So yeah, hopefully this will go off without a hitch..."

I just found out, that the city had assured them they would find the Boise neighborhood a good diverse mix of cultures . But after 3 days of waiting to see a black person on North Mississippi, they realized the mix of cultures the city was talking about was, rich and richer. Morgan Freeman was going to be the only black person on the street. So they are bringing in bus loads, so the street dosn't look so ethnocentric. Interesting that his last name is "Free Man", slavery ain't so far in our past ?

M. Free Man--Get your head out of your fucking ass and learn how to use a comma. If you actually opened your eyes and went to N Mississippi, you'd see that black and white residents still coexist. Yes, the scales have tipped towards vanilla, but only idiots trying to make an invalid point joke non-stop about there not being any black people in the area. And as far as the last sentence in your comment, yes, "Freeman" derives from emanicpation-era nomenclature, but what are you actually trying to say? Get off your retarded, pseudo-intellectual high horse. It makes you look like a jackass.
