Another glorious day on the field of battle for the Mercury Softball Team! It was another hot one yesterday at Harriet Tubman Field when the Mercury took on powerhouse shit-talkers Disjecta. Next to Sabalas, Disjecta is definitely the team to beat in the Bar/Restaurant/Tabloid League. The Mercury took an early lead, and though Disjecta battled back valiantly scoring six runs in one inning, and then held the Mercury scoreless for two innings, the game came to an exciting end with an almost homerun from Disjecta Team Captain Bryan Suereth. A hot flyball to center was picked up by the Mercury’s Lucas who threw to Greg to threw to Hump who stopped Suerth short (read: he fell on his ass) just shy of homeplate. Final score: 20-7!
Congrats to the Mercury team and this week’s MVP’s: TONYA HISE, whose bat was on fire even while she nursed a hangover, and CHAS BOWIE who sacrificed his ankle on a heroic slide to second—AND PLAYED THROUGH THE PAIN. Kudos also to pinch-catcher and Mercury alumni Sara “Dugout” Daley who subbed for a vacationing Cat.
NEXT WEEK: With only two games left in regular season play, the Mercury once again takes on the mighty Matador next Sunday. The predicted temperature for that day? 102 DEGREES! We’ll be bringing our asbestos bat.

The Mercury Softball Team: Burn, baby, BURN!
Hey, my name is Andy, and I just came across your softball blog. Congratulations on your team's big win, and good luck in the playoffs. I actually just joined this site called www.sportsvite.com where I joined a softball team that plays every other weekend. This site’s pretty cool cause it lets you create your own team or join others to play pick-up games with those from around your area. It’s like a social network like facebook or myspace, but mainly for sports. If you guys feel like playing more softball after the playoffs, you should check it out.
Did we just buy a used car?
