Last March, we wrote about Portland’s bustling kickball scene, which had grown so large it spawned a spin-off league in response the restructuring of the original league (a move that caused a minor uproar among the ‘ballers).

The new league, the Oregon Kickball Club, has been playing strong for about a month, says co-coordinator Alicia Joy:

The Oregon Kickball Club kicked off on June 8th and we really feel it’s a huge success. Pyramid Brewing has stepped up to be our sponsor and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them as the official brew of the OKC. Our 16 teams are an energetic and rowdy bunch and we feel the size of the league has contributed to us creating an amazing sense of community among our players. You’ll find pigs, ninjas and pirates in our club!

One of our biggest successes is our double-header-Saturdays. These are essentially all-day events where Pyramid Brewing provides us with a hefty amount of beer, we bbq it up and each team plays their hearts out in two games over the course of the day. A kickball picnic/party in the park! We’ve packed a ton of kickball into our season (30 games!) and will be playing until the end of October, so feel free to come out and watch us play.
