Tech Well-Laid Plans

Posted by Lance Chess on Mon, Oct 2 at 9:48 AM

Check out this free 3D architecture/design program from Google called SketchUp. It allows you to design anything you want (like the Fortress of Solitude) and place it anywhere in Google Earth you want to (like the North Pole). It also allows you to import skins for the building material components so you can wallpaper your virtual log cabin with, say, your pug’s face or midget pornography. Awesome!

I’ve already wasted 6.453 hours of my life on this program designing an exact replica of the EMP in Seattle. Okay, it’s not exact but it similarly resembles a huge pile of melted plastic.

That's pretty good. And here's another amazing thing which has been found in Google Earth:

That's the place in the middle of the desert where the Chinese Army has constructed a scale-model replica of the entire region of Aksai Chin (occupied by China since the 1962 war with India). At 1:500, it's still 700 by 900 meters big ( = several football fields). Next to it is a base with dozens of troop transporters seen coming and going. The duplicate shows everything: rivers, lakes, roads and snow-capped mountains. It's basically a landscape within a landscape.

The problem is that nobody has been able to figure out the function of this thing. The world's biggest miniature golf course, perhaps? China's own Area 51? That's why it's the subject of so much discussion in the blogosphere.

Any ideas?

I can only guess they are planning to beat the pants off the US and Japan by filming the definitive and are using it as the set of the final film in the Godzilla saga.

Or maybe some of the party leaders just want to "get their Buddha on" and walk as giants upon the land.

Shit I dunno. That's pretty creepy/cool though.
