The Times released their 100 Notable Books of the Year list this weekend, which is always mildly thrilling for my booknerds such as myself. There were a bunch of books that we reviewed here in the paper, a bunch that I read on the side, and even more that I wish I had time to stop and read. Some highlights from all three categories:
The Road by Cormac McCarthy (book of the year, IMHO)
Lay of the Land by Richard Ford
All Aunt Hagar’s Children by Edward P. Jones
The Dead Fish Museum by Charles D’Ambrosio (here in Portland!)
Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl
The Blind Side by Michael Lewis
Consider the Lobster by DFW
The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan
Wait—Where is the Architecture of Happiness? And was AM Homes’s This Book Will Save Your Life really that bad? I think not. Oh well. Check out the whole list here, and comment as you will.
