I’ve never been a big fan of those homogenized “Top 10 Films of the Year” lists that like every film critic on the planet does, but I will say this: If someone came up to me and said “Three of the best, most interesting, and original films of 2006 were Babel, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Children of Men,” I would not argue with that person. I would probably high five them, actually.
So—for anyone even vaguely interested in film—this fantastic episode of Charlie Rose is pretty mandatory. It features the director of Babel, Alejandro González Iñárritu, the director of Pan’s, Guillermo del Toro, and the director of Children, Alfonso Cuarón, just sitting around and chatting it up with Rose for an hour, talking about their films and their friendship, and it’s fascinating stuff.
Babel’s been out for a while, Pan’s Labyrinth hits Cinema 21 on the 19th, and Children of Men—which was my favorite film of the year—comes out on Friday. All are definitely, definitely worth seeing. And a tip of the hat to AICN.

I've been dying to see Children of Men. Fantastic Hi-Def trailer on apple.com. Mark and Brian show announced Christmas Day release, but either didn't mention, or I didn't hear that it was limited release. Looks like it's on one screen in Seattle.
