Media Blog Town made Portland more literate in 2006

Posted by Matt Davis on Wed, Jan 3 at 2:32 PM

It’s official:Blog Town made Portland more literate in 2006, according to this study—published by Central Connecticut University, by way of Gawker. Here’s the US’s top ten most literate cities in 2006:

Seattle, WA 1
Minneapolis, MN 2
Atlanta, GA 3.5
Washington, DC 3.5
St. Paul, MN 5
Pittsburgh, PA 6
Cincinnati, OH 7
Denver, CO 8
San Francisco, CA 9
Portland, OR 10
In 2005, the list was like this:
Seattle, WA 1
Minneapolis, MN 2
Washington, DC 3
Atlanta, GA 4
San Francisco, CA 5
Denver, CO 6
Boston, MA 7
Pittsburgh, PA 8
Cincinnati, OH 9.5
St. Paul, MN 9.5
See, no Portland. Therefore Blog Town takes full credit for the boost in rankings, since it started in April. This is a 100% scientific fact:
“This study focuses on six key indicators of literacy: newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment, and Internet resources.”
Now, back to the Youtubes.

Comments

Personally, I think this jump in literate stature can only be attributed to the fact that I moved to Portland in April. You're welcome.

PAY ATTENTION, PEOPLE! I had this two weeks ago! ;)
