… Fox is expected to cast a comic actor in the role of Dave Seville, pal to the three chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, who will be computer generated….

Goddamn I loved that cartoon when I was a kid. Really can’t wait for the shitty live-action-with-cheap-CG version starring Freddie Prinze Jr. or whothefuckever. Jesus. The whole dark, ugly scheme can be found here. (And thanks for ruining my day, Dark Horizons.)
More than likely they'll REALLY fuck it up and cast Mike Meyers or some other crap, talentless, Sat. Night Live has-been.
Why mess with a classic? It'd be like doing a live action version of Thundercats or something. Wait, I DO want to see a live version of Thundercats!

This is so wrong! Computer graphics are simply not sophisticated enough yet to match the original cartoon's appearance! If I remember correctly, each cel was actually hand-painted by a classically trained artist. It was so photorealistic that, even though you knew chipmunks couldn't talk, you still found yourself believing it.
But while the art will inevitably suffer by comparison, I still think this movie could be funny if (1) Dave yells "Alviiiin!" and (2) One of the non-Alvin chipmunks sings the line "Alvin wants a huuuuula hooooop". Especially point 2. That makes me crack up every time.
Plus, computers have greatly simplified the process of producing a realistic chipmunk voice, compared to the old process, which involved recording the actors talking veerrrrry slowly, pressing that on to a 33rpm record, and then playing that record at 45rpm.
Oh, wait, I just remembered that I have my own blog. I don't need to write so much here.
