Portland Postal Stalkers

Posted by Courtney Ferguson on Wed, Jan 10 at 2:10 PM

For the second time in one week, I’ve noticed that local postal workers are being blatantly shadowed by plain-clothes stalkers. The Mercury’s mail carrier had someone in a dark SUV following her on her route. This “stalker” was dressed in a dark coat, bright tie, and had bleached blond hair. Today, I saw a postal worker being shadowed by an older man carrying a grocery bag—he was following the carrier from house to house and then back to the USPS truck. So what the fuck is going on? Any postal workers out there who can give me the rundown?

While waiting for a late bus back to Garden Home last night, I saw what I initially took to be a postal carrier, as it was a man with a bundle of mail who was wearing shorts. I thought this odd, as it was nearly ten at night, and raining...but then again, neither snow, nor rain, nor heat...anyway...it turned out just to be a dude in boxers taking a piss on the side of a building. Go figure. Hmmm, that doesn't clear up this stalker business at all.

I was told by a postal employee that the U.S. Postal Service actually has investigators who track the carriers when they think they might be slacking on the job. One guy I heard about had a bunch of rental property and he would allegedly sort of collect rent and manage his properties and such while he was doing his route. Just a rumor...not fact.
