Film Sundance, iTunes, and Assassins Who Pretend to Be Mailmen.

Posted by Erik Henriksen on Tue, Jan 16 at 8:40 AM

This is pretty rad: Starting next week, many of the short films from 2007’s Sundance Film Festival (including Portlander Andy Blubaugh’s Scaredycat) will be available for purchase on iTunes. Price is $1.99, with the BBC reporting that the bulk of that goes right back to the filmmakers. Rad. But more importantly, this move makes Sundance way more accessible to a whole lot more people—especially since the fest will also stream the films, for free, on their official website.

Robert Redford, who founded the Sundance Film Festival, said short films were an important aspect of the annual festival.

“I have felt, from the earliest days, that if people really care about independent film, they should pay particular attention to short filmmakers, who are the best indicators of what is coming down the creative pike,” he said.

Speaking of Robert Redford, one incontrovertible fact of my existence is that Redford is all sorts of badass. He even kills conniving assassins who pretend to be harmless mailmen, which I think is something we can all get behind.

So, we must always remember to keep boiling water ready whenever the government is sending people to kill you. And plenty of rugs and fire pokers don't hurt, either.
