Tech Internet Hypochondriac

Posted by Courtney Ferguson on Fri, Feb 9 at 11:22 AM

I don’t know about y’all, but since the advent of the internets I often turn to it as my “ask a nurse.” Like recently when my fingernail developed a strange ridge down the middle, I ran straight to stopbitingnails.com to find out what weird flesh-eating disease I had picked up. So after some serious browsing I was positive I had an overactive thyroid gland combined with an underachieving thyroid, resulting in the total absence of this mysterious gland. Also I was pretty sure that I had cancer, hair loss, and bi-polar disorder.
What’s the worst disease you’ve convinced yourself (thanks, internet) that you have?

I have weird "hot spots" where a spot on my leg (about the size of a half dollar) will suddenly get almost uncomfortably hot for 30 seconds and then mysteriously disappear. HELP ME!

Hmm, I had a friend who had mysterious red patches on his inner thighs. The spots would consistently show up in the afternoon. After years of wondering what it was he discovered it was from crossing his legs--where both his thighs would touch. Perhaps this could be your answer. Or you're dying of Pongo Bongo Darnaz Fever. Probably the latter.

I was pretty sure I had Candida after I read about it online and then bought a book and read it too, but it turned out that I just had a lot of food allergies.

I thought I had blood cancer.

i thought i had a bug bite. really, i had crohn's disease. like hypochondriac backwards - is that a hyperchondriac?
