« Vision PDX preview: "Get your fucking Blackberry out of my face." | Main | Republicans Can (Try) to be Funny, Too! »
This is going down in five hours:
Thursday, February 15th, 4:30-7pmPlease join us for a traffic safety demonstration. We will be gathering at 26th and Stark Street, where Nick Bucher lost his life to a speeding motorist.
Make a face to face statement to motorists about traffic safety. We’ll have cyclists gather on both sides of the intersection with signs asking drivers to slow down and take care to drive safely through our neighborhoods.
Make a sign—and some to share if you can.
The media is invited.
We’re starting early so that you’ll have time to scoot off to free geek’s movie night, or the nopo greenway meeting afterward.

The event was very successful! About 15-20 people showed up (maybe ten to a dozen at a particular time) and some of the signs were very LARGE and very nicely lettered. There were a lot of speeders, almost all of them slowed as they passed our group. There many polite honks of support, I'm not aware of any angry motorists being encountered. A PM reporter showed up, and the film crew for a Portland bike scene documentary (portlandbikemovie.com) was filming. We plan to have these events once-per-month, at a different location each time. Keep an eye on bikeportland.org or the Shift online calendar at shift2bikes.org/calendar/ .
