I'm unclear about this. Isn't City Club the host and instigator of this debate? Didn't they invite Scott and create a forum for him and Victoria Taft (and Jack Ohman) to "let loose and skewer local and national politics?" Why does that lead to "ripping them a new asshole?" And for what will City Club be "taken to task?" Organizing a public forum? Asking Scott to speak? Remind me not to invite you to dinner.

I get that this is pro wrestling rhetoric, etc., and I don't mean to pick on your posts, Matt, but your target on this is so wrong, like five or ten years wrong.

Do you know Marc Moscato? He used to run Microcosm Publishing, and helped set up Liberty Hall. A very deeply involved and effective cultural/political activist. He's City Club's communications guy now, helping plan public events. How about Wendy Radmacher-Willis? She runs City Club. She's the man.

Seriously, though, I was impressed with today's discussion, and not just because of Scott's awesome performance. As a result, I plan to go down to more City Clubs in future. Although if the club clashes with a pro wrestling tournament, I may have to duck out...

Scott, you're fucking this whole thing up. People are supposed to feel terrific about themselves on the basis of their membership and their luncheoning, nothing more.

Here you want to strip away that critical public veneer and even inject stuff like humility and humor.
