Yesterday, designer and Project Catwalk star Julien Macdonald outraged anti-fur protesters by not only showing a collection that used oodles of fur, but publicly made the statement that “people who don’t like fur can piss off.” According to our resident British person, Matt Davis, making such statements is quite a risky thing in England, where fur protesters are so militant (and wrongheaded) that there is actually a reasonable chance that they might kill you. In which case, Macdonald’s collection must truly be to die for. Do you think so?:

Uh, you might get your facts straight before stating them so confidently. Anti-fur activists have never killed anyone. However, animal rights activists HAVE been killed in the course of protesting.
The only one doing any killing are the fur producers, supported by the fur hags.
I'd love to sit down and watch the fur section of "Earthlings" with these designers. My feeling on the fur issue is that people who like it tend to be either a) ill or under-informed b) heartless. With exceptions made for people living by the North Pole, perhaps.
It never ceases to amaze me how people can consider this level of needless cruelty "fashion". All I can see when I look at these coats are caged, bloody, innocent wild animals who died for spoiled rich people.
It might also interest people to know that dog and cat fur from China has been found in the fur trim on some coats found in the U.S. Yup, if you wear fur trim, you may very well be contributing to the trade in dog and cat fur.
I don't personally believe foxes, beavers or minks to be less deserving than dogs and cats of a decent, unmolested life, but many do.
Anyway, all I have to say is - Why? If you wear fur, you may as well go around clubbing housecats, because you're paying someone else to do worse on your behalf.
p.s. - has a fur protestor actually ever killed a person? I don't think so, but feel free to school me if I'm wrong. Threatening to kill is not the same thing.
p.p.s. - And just to be clear, I'm not down with any violence - not even human on fur-coat-wearer. I understand why people feel angry, however.
Suz - I hope you don't have a pet. You'd probably skin them alive, or pay someone else to do it. Cruelty looks "gorgeous" to you. Disgusting. http://www.furisdead.com
p.p.p.s. - Why not do a Matt Davis and learn something about what actually goes on in the fur industry?
Under the illusion of glamour these coats create is a much more interesting story about what really goes down on fur farms both here and abroad.
This aspect has been largely missed by all the stories on Schumacher Furs. It's being missed now.
Yeah, some activists are angry - why not investigate and find out why - It's easy to write the same old story: Fur is glamorous, activists are angry, blah blah blah. Why not write something new and find out why activists are angry on your own? Don't just ask the same talking heads, either. Look into it. The same old story is getting tired.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the matter - or, perhaps I'm up to 4 cents now.
What I want to know is this: When are designers going to start making human-skin coats? And where can I buy one when they're available?
Let's just take all the heinous criminals and horrendous assholes out there and make coats out of THEM instead!
The first assholes that should have the skin coats made out of them are the fur wearers. Since they like it so much, they ought to experience the pleasure first-hand of being beaten and skinned alive. That includes you, sicko Suz.
The models are about 50 years younger than the real fur wearers.
When have you ever seen anyone under the age of 60 wearing a fur coat? Might as well bring back spats or those little white gloves women wore back in the 40s...
People shouldn't wear clothes at all: fur and leather involve cruelty to animals. The plants we use for organic fibers could be used to provide alternative fuels. Synthetic fabrics waste petroleum.
The only truly consistent position is nudism.
From my studies, I've found that the ALF and various groups related to them have done a lot of dangerous activities that could endanger human life-- kinda makes me go from, "Aw, they save the beagles and the minkses and the cute piggies" to "Wait, they wanna firebomb those farmers?"
So, Alex, what the does that have to do with average person not wearing fur? The issue remains that fur is unconscionably cruel.
It's a response to the animal activists not killing anyone comment, 789.
Americans and the world will wean themselves off fur eventually, screaming at them and firebombing their businesses isn't going to do much to help things along. :)
Actually, I think that publicly calling people out who wear fur does quite a bit to make it a less popular fashion item. You don't spend tens of thousands of dollars on a fashion item to get into an embarrassing confrontation everytime you wear it!
Strange how PETA can kill thousands of puppies and kittens and still complain about fur.
PETA kills 90% of the animals in its shelters and many never get to the shelter. They murder them in the van.
Search google for PETA KILLS
The PETA people are idiots.
