Fashion Cat Fight: Lily Allen vs Kate Moss

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Mon, Mar 19 at 3:14 PM

Putting aside for the moment the fact that Lily Allen is a pop star and Kate Moss is a model, and neither is a clothing designer, the two both have clothing lines coming out (Kate for TopShop, and Lily for New Look). (Damn these modern times.) Recently, Lily dropped some fightin’ words:

“I like what New Look are doing and what they are about, ” she told the Daily Mirror. “They have responsible role models like me and Drew Barrymore and they’re very conscious of having positive body images and promoting positive body images and promoting positive women. Unlike Kate Moss and that f****** billionaire who’s thrown a load of money at her so we can get to see what her wardrobe is like. It’s madness.”

In a fantasy world, the two would actually come to blows, but unfortunately that’s why handlers were invented. But just theoretically, whose side would you be on in a Lily vs Kate duel? Take into consideration fashion sense, beauty, body type, persona, etc. Personally, I can’t decide. Kate is definitely the better dresser, but possibly the worse person. Lily’s music is mediocre except for “Smile,” and her clothes are stupid, but she sure is sassy.

so now if someone is born with a naturally thin build, they're a bad role model?

..and what does being a role model have to do with selling clothes?

I would love it if we could all stay on topic for once. The debate is Lily vs. Kate, and I vote Kate, if for no other reason that prom dresses with sneakers is an awful idea that needs to disappear now.

Well, Lulu, unfortunately you can't mention Kate Moss without it being about skinny models. I've undertaken the task of reminding women what they don't want to hear: IT'S BETTER TO BE SKINNY THAN TO BE FAT! Death by anorexia is rare among women (and even rarer among men). However, death by heart disease or diabetes is quite common indeed, by comparison. WHY is so much energy spent fussing over skinny models and girls who can't control the impulse not to eat when duty and rationality would seem to call on us to spend our energy on those who can't resist the impulse to start off the day with a muffin the size of a cabbage and end it with twelve scoops of ice cream.

I'd side with Lily, because both her songs and her style suggest that she has a sense of humor, and I've never seen any indication of such from Miss Moss. (The previous comment was pretty hilarious, though.)

I think the Kate Moss bad role model thing is about the coke, not the skinny. And I'd have to go with Kate Moss in a fight. You can do more damage with a stiletto than a tennis shoe.

Who gives a shit? First, fuck the British. Second, these stupid bitches should just keep their mouths shut. However, Kate has filled out nicely and I think Lily and Kate should be the bread on a Rush Sandwich!
