Film Evan Almighty Trailer!

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Fri, Mar 30 at 9:57 AM

Here’s the extended trailer for the new STEVE CARELL summer-time comedy (that thankfully doesn’t star Jim Carrey) EVAN ALMIGHTY. Watch it and answer the question: Does it make you dislike Christians MORE or LESS?

Comments

I'm pretty sure Noah was a Jew. Personally, I love the Jews.

(Sigh.) FINE. I'll rephrase the question: "Does this trailer make you dislike Christians who co-opt the Jews MORE or LESS?"

What Christians are you referring to? All those Christians in Hollywood, always forcing their dogma down our throats with their myriad Christian movies? (Why, you can't see a studio flick these days without getting preached to! If only there were some Jewish people in Hollywood to set them straight!) Or am I missing the point of your rephrased question?

Also, pretty sure Christians in general didn't "co-opt" the Jews, Jesus being a Jew and all. Also pretty sure the account of Noah and the flood indicated there wouldn't be another flood. But as long as the movie is as funny as the trailer indicates ... (ahem) ... right?

(Sigh.) FINE. Once again I'll rephrase the question: "Will any commenter on this blog EVER answer a simple question without dissecting it to the nth degree?"

How can you dissect something to the nth degree? You seem to be mixing biology terminology with math terminology. Perhaps you meant to use the verb "deconstruct". That would make more sense in the context of questions and language.

I will never be the first in line to try and excuse the "christians", but I see no reference to Christ in this trailer or in the Bruce Almighty movie that preceded it.

Sorry, Humpy, but I think you will have to look elsewhere (opportunities abound!) for christian bashing fodder.

OMG! It's true! YOU PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY INCAPABLE OF ANSWERING A SIMPLE QUESTION!! (Sigh.) FINE. I'll rephrase the question one more time: "Do you think the movie Bruce Almighty will be amusing?"
"DECONSTRUCT" THAT, BITCHES!

I think it's interesting that you mentioned Bruce Almighty, which, of course, has already been released. And yet the question presupposes that the degree to which that movie is found amusing by those questioned may only occur in the future, to say nothing of the assumption that movies are created merely as objects of amusement, and not, say, as radical rereadings of a given text, in this case the account of the flood from Genesis. Why would the question assume Bruce Almighty will only be found amusing after some (unnamed) future occurrence? What reason does the questioner have to doubt the potential for humor in such movies? Given the increasing tendency in society towards populism and away from a deep appreciation for art qua art, it is likely that Mr. Humphrey, by phrasing his question as he did, is positing Bruce Almighty's inherent lack of artistic value, and, moreover, its lack of entertainment value vis-a-vis humor. By extension, the audience is led to believe that Evan Almighty will also blow, even if it does star former Daily Show people.

See, if you ask a relevant question to begin with- you'll get a direct answer. Asking for our opinions on christians regarding that particular trailer is so off base you can't really expect to get a direct response. Now if you were asking our opinions on christians following a trailer for say, The Nativity, or The Passion of the Christ- I think the responses would be more of what you're lookin' for.

Either way, the problem started with the question- not the responses.

(Sigh.) FINE. I'll rephrase the question: "Do you thinkzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......"

Wait a sec. I thought that whole flood thing was a one-time deal. Remember that whole, "I guess I kinda lost my cool, you know, killing almost every living thing on the planet. I promise I won't do it again. look I got you this rainbow. Isn't it nice?"

hey guys i am a christian trying to work out wa u are all on about any film that has a christian message hoe every small funny and maybe out of contexts is good the tralier shows the world being warned theres a flood coming and the ppl mocking him like in the bible so i think this film will b more in line with christianity than bruce almighty as it didnt follow i persific part of the bible or god
