TV Happy 10th Anniversary, Buffy!

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Fri, Mar 9 at 2:26 PM

Happy anniversary (tomorrow) to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, which made its debut on March 10th, 1997 and ran for seven mostly glorious seasons. Obviously, Buffy changed the way people created television shows (and if you need examples, check out this excellent article), but I’ve always been a huge fan of the way Buffy mixed horror and comedy. Here’s one of my favorite scenes which was actually deleted the first time it aired. Buffy and the Scoobies are coerced into performing in the school talent show, and have to battle a murderous ventriloquist dummy—but their actual act isn’t seen until the closing credits. Talk about the mix of horror and comedy! Buffy, thanks for being born.

And if y'all are not attending Buffy at the Mission every Tuesday night (it's free), why the Hell not?

you know, even if you've already watched all seven seasons on dvd (in one winter), watching them again with the spanish subtitles on is totally ok, because it's educational... and i'm not a loser.

I got two cats specifically so I could name them Willow and Bea. Nope, I'm not obsessed. Not me.

Don't forget that the official and canon Buffy: Season 8 begins next Wednesday at your local comic book retailer.

Buffy is that show that everyone laughs at you for loving - until they watch it for themselves. Then they're all; "oh, I love Buffy SOOO much, it's SOOO awesome." Then you can be like, "I told you so bitch, now go out and watch gorram Firefly!"

Tried the Mission once -- I know some do it for the weekly camraderie but for me the sound and picture quality was lacking. Happier watching at home.
