Misc Cell phones=death to bees=DOOM

Posted by Matt Davis on Mon, Apr 16 at 12:55 PM

Just in case your Monday was going well, that you hadn’t had any premonitions of doom already (I usually have my first around 8.22am, most Mondays…), did you know that CELL PHONES ARE GOING TO KILL US ALL? The West Coast has lost 60 per cent of its bee population—scientists think cell phone signals are stopping bees from finding their way home. All the bees are abandoning their hives. No bees means no pollen, means no crops. Means you’re dead.

Seriously, it’s a big deal. So if I see any of you FoodFight! bastards on your cellphones, don’t try the “you’re a killer” bullshit with me. Turns out, you’re directly responsible for the death of Western civilization as we know it.

Comments

it could be anything that's messing up the bees, including cell phones.

but that article you linked is, um, kinda crappy. first, it's based on one "limited study." second, boingboing and snopes say they can find no evidence that einstein truly opined on bees. third, it fails to mention studies that show cell phones to be harmless to people, focusing only on the two that suggest, as you put it, "DOOM."

You mean I might have been blowing the whole thing out of proportion?

possibly yes.

Nooooooooooo.

Oh I get it, use the electric field to modify the neural activity. Aligning/pulling ions, makes sense to me.

I was aware of a collabortion to build silicon-on-insulator circuits with neurons directly attached. I don't know what became of it.

Ironically almost, the big issue at the time was how to align the neurons with the pads.
