Fashion Dirty Little Secret Expansion

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Wed, Apr 11 at 11:07 AM

(Posting this under “fashion,” but perhaps it should really be “beauty.”)

I’m going to go check this out in the very near future, but heads up that über-popular salon Dirty Little Secret (1909 NE MLK—aka next door to Dunes) has srouted up a whole new spa area. In addition to hair care, you can now get massage (sports, Swedish, deep tissue, Shiatsu, or pregnancy), Reiki, and—intriguingly—chill out sessions in their “comfort room,” which is equipped with a full-spectrum light box and heat lamps as well as aromatherapy, designed to “chase away those PDX blues” (it’s supposed to rain for like the next 10 days straight, BTW). Plus facials, waxing, and nails—basically all your spa essentials, but deliverd Dirty Little Secret style. I’m going to go check ‘em out real soon, I’ll let you know how that goes. Anyone else already beat me to it?

And what an appropriate place. MLK. I'm sure those single, minority moms really have a use for a place like this.

Nice to hear about DLS, but I am loyal to the incomparable Jane Cowan over on N. Mississippi. Facials, brows or "afro in your pants" Jane is hands down THE go-to gal in PDX. You can take it from me, the original "hairy mary!" Oy!

Can someone please "gentrify" Salinger off this blog?

wtf, salinger? Do you think that black PDXers only stay on MLK, and white people avoid it? Have you even been on it during the last two decades? It's totally mixed up with great local businesses. I particuarly love (black-owned) Horn of Africa and (white-owned) Dirty Little Secret.

I'm anxious to check DLS's expansions out. Their prices are relatively reasonable -- at least at the hair salon -- and they don't have the snooty, ladies-who-lunch attitude that keeps me away from most other spas. So, yea.

I suppose it's easy to say that if you've just moved here. Defend yourselves any way you can to sleep at night

I just love it when self-righteous half-wits spout off in order to showcase their low-income-minority-street cred. Who are you, Salinger, to suggest that any "single, minority moms" living in the neighborhood couldn't or wouldn't use the services of DLS's amazing stylists and technicians. You're a twat. Surely, an all natural, untamed, bushy one. DLS is a women-owned small business that has contributed immeasurably to the neighborhood. Instead of hiding behind glib, uninformed posts from your laptop, why don't you go volunteer in a homeless shelter if you feel a need to assuage your internalized liberal guilt.
