Politics Edwards’ wife: “Race involved in Bush’s response to Virginia Tech/Katrina?”

John Edwards’ wife Elizabeth got dragged into a discussion of President Bush’s comparative responses to the tragedies of Hurricane Katrina and Virginia Tech today. You can tell she felt pinioned by the question, but instead of dodging the answer, which she initially tries to do, she clearly felt strongly enough to go on and be honest. It’s refreshing to see somebody’s personal convictions trumping the requirement to stay on message. Good on her, and I also agree with what she said:

“What we see oftentimes is that issues that involve African Americans in this country do not get the same attention…”, “This wasn’t a pretty picture in Katrina. It was a very ugly picture. And instead you go to Virginia Tech, and it’s a beautiful campus like this is, and the story involved, a lot of people who were sort of moving up in society, instead of the people who were held down by society.”

Watch a video of her comments after the jump.

MILF!

I know, dude. Like, totally!!

wow. If that's not the most biased thing I've ever seen in the news.

The difference in response could be because it was a SCHOOL SHOOTING not a natural disaster that was expected to hit the fucking coast.

If you noticed in the Katrina coverage, all the white folks and the smart blacks got the fuck out of dodge when they were told a devastating storm was coming. Everyone else jumped up and down saying, "We gon' see what's happinin!" and got caught in some bullshit.

Then this lady jumps on board saying black issues aren't treated correctly, thereby winning the black vote for her husband. Jesus people.. this shit is all politically motivated.

If someone asked her what her solution was for the problem, I'm sure she would avoid having to actually answer something that could spark some progress.

The "smart blacks"? Because all the Blacks who were too poor to afford transportation were also stupid.

...and because all "white folks" are smart, and only a select few "blacks"? if you're supporting the president here, andrew, he's the guy who said "no one could have predicted" the levees would break. just hope your smart ass doesn't get caught in a natural disaster without any gas money.

Of course I agree with the Milf, BUT: Is it really Chris Matthew's job as a journalist to preface his question to Mrs. Edwards with such crowd-rousing banter (regarding the youtube video)? It seems that he's not being fair to anyone involved with that little trick. Especially to people like me, who get 100% of their national political news from the mercury's blogtown.
