Politics Budget Outrage! Cyclists, Here’s Your Chance To Make Your Voice Heard

Posted by Scott Moore on Tue, May 1 at 3:01 PM

Hey biker, still steamed about Mayor Potter’s decision to cut funding from the Bicycle Master Plan? Here are three ways you can let him know.

1. Show up tonight for the regularly scheduled Bike Master Plan Ride. It’s headed up by the Department of Transportation’s bike planner, Roger Geller, and meets at 5:15pm tonight at Terry Schrunk Plaza on SW 3rd and Madison (right across the street from city hall). It’s not a protest, but an informational ride about the city’s cycling needs, but the number of cyclists who turn out to support it probably won’t go unnoticed by city hall. Oh, and Commissioner Sam Adams is rumored to be making an appearance.

2. On May 4th, Potter’s full budget will be posted on the city’s website. From May 4th to the 14th, you can comment electronically on the budget, and the messages will go to the city council offices. Not as effective as a personalized call, or letter, or visit, but it’s better than nothing.

3. Show up in person (on bike, if possible) to the Community Budget Hearing on May 10th at the Robert Gray Middle School Cafeteria, 5505 SW 23rd Ave at 6:00pm. Of course, you can also contact any and all of the elected city officials at any time.
