News It’s May Day!

Posted by Matt Davis on Tue, May 1 at 8:55 AM

Portland police say they’re not expecting trouble today, although the two Trimet cops I bumped into in the Pearl District Starbucks this morning (I was looking for Monica Lewinsky) seemed pretty excited about it. “It’s Mayday,” they grinned.
Maypole.jpgMAYPOLE! MAYPOLE! MAYPOLE! YES!!!

I’m excited, too. No actual Maypole that I know of, and no white-dress-wearing, classically-featured maidens twirling around it, either, but there’s an anti-anti-immigration rally in the Park Blocks at 4pm, and who knows, perhaps Portland’s G.I-effigy-burning-Antichrists will be out in force to ruin the day for everyone. We’ll be hanging around with a camera to see what happens.

Almost forgot: Indymedia adds, “If you get arrested, call 503 233 3194 for jail support.” If you are a serious anarchist, you’ll be writing that number on your arm with a biro, RIGHT NOW. Got it? Good. Happy May Day, everyone!
