Monica Lewinsky is still on the hunt for a job, Portland. Yesterday she was spotted interviewing at a certain list-loving local magazine:

Monica—I thought you knew this best of all: You’ve got to start at the top, sweetie. Why are you wasting your time there? Just dying to work on the “100 Best Paninis in Portland”? We here at the Mercury have an editorial meeting that starts at 10 am next Wednesday. Bring some ideas and we’ll work something out. (Oh—can you bring in some iced lattes, too, please? With soy?)
Ummm… nobody's stalking her (at least not from the Mercury) so cool it with the overstatements. However! I do agree I would be happier than a pig in mud if she wanted to work with us! I think she's terrific.
You are kinda stalking her. I feel slightly uncomfortable when I see yet another post about Monica Lewinsky. I know that I'm only feeding fuel to the fire by adding a comment here, but I seriously wish her all the best and I also wish you'd leave her alone. Portland isn't Los Angeles.
For what it's worth, I think you should lay off her, too.
She probably only dies inside a dozen times a day every day. Maybe that's enough.
I strongly agree with the above posts. It's bottom feeding in the worst sense of tabloid style journalism.
It may not be stalking per se, but it is still pretty lame.
Maybe she would have considered working for the Mercury...but after your snide commentary and attemps at humor... I seriously doubt it. By the way, her thesis title "In Search of the Impartial Juror: An Exploration of the Third Person Effect and Pre-Trial Publicity." Now go look in the mirror, you at the Mercury are part of the problem.
Quit. Just quit- or move to LA where this kind of stuff is ok and expected.
I seldom join the fray here, but I strongly agree, leave teh woman alone. She's not news anymore. Let it go.
You make us all look trite and foolish.

Ah, what the hell, I'll chime in too. Leave her alone.
I'm going to agree with the above posters - leave her alone and let her get on with her life.
Why leave her alone? Doesn't she use her infamy to further herself? The line of handbags, hosting a tv show and so on.
Ritchie that was the past. She had very large bills to pay...Attorney's fees are not inexpensive when you are facing the U.S. government.

Humphrey is a tard. Case in point.
Yo, Hump, leave the woman alone. This is creepy and ignoble, even for you.
Yeah, I'm still bothered about it even a couple of days later and this is why:
I am especially irked at Humphrey's comment that "Ummm… nobody's stalking her (at least not from the Mercury) so cool it with the overstatements." Actually if you look up the terms Computer Harrassment or Cyberstalking there are many similarities with the Merc's blogging on Lewinski the past few weeks. (i.e. having Mercury folks wander the Pearl looking for where she lives , hangs out, following her activities and writing about them, etc).
The coverage also reads as a pathetic attempt to try and be a tabloid site like Perez Hilton or Dlisted.com, but it just comes across as sad and beyond bottom feeding without the humor of those sites.
Also, I think it is very shitty to blog about where she is job hunting as it may really be preventing her from getting a job if a prospective employer
reads about it and decides they don't want to deal with the publicity or scrutiny of the media. If I was a job hunter, I'd be outraged. Not to mention it might be a legal liability issue for the paper.
So cut it out Mercury. I know you are Portland's best High School Paper and everything in that age bracket maturity range, but you can do better than this.
Jesus, what a bunch of whiners.
Thanks for your comments everybody! As mentioned earlier, the Mercury isn't sending anyone out to stalk her. However, if someone sends in tips where they've seen her, there's a good chance we'll write about it here. Hope that's okay, 'cuz that's the way it's gonna be.
holy crap! Enough about this chick!!!
seriously, if no one wants to read it and it's making people feel queasy (as it is me) why continue?
I hear what you're saying, but we're a newspaper that reports on news, fun and gossip. While I respect that this kind of reporting makes some people uncomfortable, we can't run a media organization based on every single person's comfort level. I'm a huge Monica fan, and as mentioned many times on this blog, the Mercury is going to keep a respectful distance. For those who can't hang with that, I understand, and I suggest that if you see a Monica post, you might want to scroll on past.
A surly and defiant tone towards one's customer base is a sure-fire winning strategy as well. Snark on!
Really, it's annoying to continue to hound someone like this and a turn off to most people.

Where's the respect in taunting her with the "intern" label and telling her to bring you iced lattes? I'm not trying to be indignant here, just noting the apparent contradiction. Seems to me you're trying to do a bit more here than merely pass along tips re. ML's whereabouts.
If by "surly and defiant" you mean that I simply disagree with you, then I guess I'm surly and defiant. As always—and I mean this in the most un-snarky way possible— if you (or any other reader) don't like what you read here, then you should read something else. We're certainly not for everybody.
Can you people just CALM DOWN? She dies inside a dozen times a day? Puhleeeeeze.
If the Mercury was "semi-stalking" Tonya Harding, would all of you be up in arms? You'd probably have a half a chuckle over it, and move on. Which is exactly what you should do here. It's all in good fun, it's mildly amusing, and it's harmless. So calm down, you're all a bunch of whiny drips who are trying to Keep Portland Weird.
"the Mercury is going to keep a respectful distance."
Your idea of a respectful distance creeps me out.
Maybe it's time for a blog jihad against the Merc?

i don't like these monica-stalking posts, but it would be interesting if she worked at the mercury. she'd be a lovely hipster.
