Once again, draft night in Portland is always an exciting place to be. Last night’s draft landed the Trail Blazers a franchise player (Greg Oden), a pair of foreign point-guards (Rudy Fernandez and Petteri Koponen), a two-time NCAA champion (Taurean Green), and one token white guy (Josh McRoberts). Okay that was mean, McRoberts is solid, and if anything, he is Greg Oden’s pal.
Speaking of the Big O, he will be at Pioneer Courthouse Square today at noon, where you can meet our new star player and get one free piggyback ride from him around the square. Just one, don’t get greedy.
Also, the almost-as-big news is that we shipped off Zach Randolph. Farewell, my doughy friend, may you and the Hoop Family find peace in New York, a city far more forgiving than ours.
I'll just have to ask myself the same old question. Dear lord, will this be the year that the Blazers bring something more than scandalous headlines to our fair city? When lord, when will you deliver us from this scourge that is known as the Blazer franchise!
Kinda sick about letting Z-bo go for pocket lint in return. But hell, we got Taurean FUCKING Green as an afterthought. Good night...
We were never going to get what Zach was worth. But the prospect of moving his contract out, possibly buying out Steve Francis' contract and having a chuck of change to go after a guy like Rashard Lewis could end up being a stroke of brilliance.
Rudy Fernandez is a 2-guard, but whatevs. That they just bought off the Suns for him is pretty sweet, even though we won't get to see him until '08-'09.
I agree. I loved me some Zach, but Frye is going to bounce back from a tough season and really round out the team. Plus, when Z-Bo dominates the East, it will be nice to see him get that All-Star nod he missed out on last year.
My main concern now is a true scorer, which we don't really have. I assume Roy will pick up the slack some, but landing Lewis would be a real coup.
The blazer offense is going to be interesting. I think the bigs Aldridge/Oden will eventually be one of the top tendems in the league. at SF soon-to-be Blazer James Jones seems to hit open outside shots (38.5% from 3 in Pheonix last year) and we all know when he's a part of the game Martel can shoot better then most smalls. The Blazer guards are lacking in perimeter punch from 3 though. Hopefully one of the drafted players turns out to be a stick. Doesn't have to be a pure point---Roy will handle the ball alot ala Pippen.
Defense should be awesome though. They are going to be winning alot of games soon enough.
I think Green is the steal of the draft.
This is just awesome.

"New York" and "forgiving" are two words I'd never thought I'd see in the same sentence.
