Events Minnie Does Portland

Posted by Courtney Ferguson on Thu, Jun 7 at 1:57 PM

I’m not sure why this cracks me up, but it does…
Minnie Driver is playing a gig in town in August (15th) at the Doug Fir. There’s something surreal, and suprisingly compelling, about the opportunity to see her with a big old guitar while she sings “dreamy, melodic folk.”

Ha! This kills me.

I would ask Chas if your reaction makes you a hipster.

According to Chas, you're a hipster for merely asking that question.

It stings a little.

I didn't know horses could play guitar.

Does anyone remember her singing, "Stand By Your Man" during one of those James Bond flicks...which a crappy Russian accent?

I thought boll weavils were nesting in my ears. ARGGGGG! Gimme an icepick, dammit!

OTOH, perhaps she took lessons after that nasty weavils experience, cuz I heard her sing on the Riches and it didn't summon up memories of insectoid inner-ear invasions. Go figgur!

I saw her perform with band on Leno or Letterman. TOTAL LILITH FAIR CRAP. Fluffy, Dave Matthews-ish, radio friendly, psuedo alt-country crap. Another crap actor with another crap band. A real dilemma for the hipsters, as she's playing Doug Fir, who we all know would never book an unhipster-friendly act.

How many women generally play guitar with their shirt open?

Not enough.

She actually has a very sweet old-timey voice. She sang a little on "The Riches," and she sounded quite good. That said, I don't know if I'm up for a whole set...

One of my favorite films is THE RAPTURE with Minnie Driver, a million times more entertaining than Minnie LIVE or The Rapture the band.. Check it out- David Duchovny's huge ahem is in it too..
