News One Portland Octogenarian Fights Back

Posted by Matt Davis on Wed, Jun 6 at 6:01 PM

This is the second story on Blogtown today about a woman in her 80s. This one, from the police account, took place at the Junior Rose Parade earlier today:

At about 12:30 pm, 81-year-old Janet Gasser drove a Honda eastbound through the barricade at Northeast 42nd Avenue and Northeast Sandy. An officer at the barricade tried to stop Gasser and had to dive out of the way to avoid being hit by her car. Hoping to stop her, the officer hit the windshield of Gasser’s car with his baton as she went by.

Gasser continued eastbound on Northeast Sandy Boulevard along the parade route at approximately 30-35 mph. As she did so she narrowly missed several families, children, and an ice cream salesperson walking on the closed roadway. Officers were finally able to stop the car at Northeast 52nd Avenue. Gasser was extremely angry and stated that she was upset the road was closed for the parade. She was charged with one count of Reckless Driving and one count of Reckless Endangering.

Pissed off grannies rock my socks!

one wonders if indeed the PoPo have told
the full story and it in it's TRUTH as one
senses that there is far more to the story
than they've told? After PoPo manhandling
of 81-year old granny, given PoPo's history of dealing with truth, one senses
they'll tell only those aspects that will
enhance their version of this story, and
will gleefully neglect other aspects that
would give more balance to the report. I
just don't trust the PoPo when it comes to
abuse issues with helpless citizens, as
I've seen them repeatedly abuse people
and then lie about it to protect their
careers and so-called "reputations". I
hope the full truth comes on on this one
and we get to bottom of what really did
happen.

In this case I think it's safe to say the 81-year-old drove through the barrier because she was pissed off the street was closed for the rose festival.

Come on, "doubter." Save your energy for once.

Here we have yet another case in a long list of cases for mandatory, yearly driver's license tests for drivers over the age of, oh, 75 years old.

tick tock, Cabbie

Sure, when I get that old, I'll be happy to prove that I can still drive. I don't want to plow into a Dennys or something and maim a bunch of innocent people. How about you, jim ?

Oh, settle down, Cabbie. Just poking a little fun.

mmmm....denny's.

reckless driving? I got charged with reckless driving just for speeding on the open and empty highway (ok, i was going over a hundred, but still...). I'd say this biatch got off easy.

Woman drove through a barrier, almost hitting families, and there's commentary this might be a cop coverup?

STFU, thomas. Really.

Compare what happened to her to what happened to Kendra James. I would say that an elderly person driving into an area where the street is blocked off is much more dangerous than a Driving While Black suspect driving off from a traffic stop.

Now say there isn't racial profiling in Portland, Robert King...
