Just over a week ago, Mayor Tom Potter’s approval ratings were reported at just over 50 percent—as it stands today, though, he’s apparently getting booed.
According to OregonLive’s Blazer blog, Potter got a chorus of boos when he took the mic during the Greg Oden Blazergasm at Pioneer Courthouse Square this afternoon. (That link has an mp3 of the whole affair—Potter’s part is just past half way.)
“Calm down, calm down,” he told the crowd.
Was anybody there? Care to share the context, or was this just genuinely a spontaneous outpouring of dissatisfaction with the mayor? Or was it simply that he isn’t Greg Oden?
I was there. The crowd was very enthusiastic and would probably cheer loudly if they held up a pencil with Oden's name on it. When Mayor Potter was introduced, a lot of people around me stopped clapping and just sort of looked at the ground, including me. And then people started booing. Not everyone, but enough people that it became a little bit uncomfortable.
yeah, when they first introduced him, the abrupt transition from raucous applause to silence was pretty hilarious. I was hoping for a tumbleweed to blow across the stage, or crickets to start chirping. Funcomfortable!
I think his reception would've been better had he not been quoted earlier advocating a committee and visioning process to make the Oden decision.
awesome
I heard someone yelled "you don't give a shit about sports!". I think some people associate Potter with Portland not getting a baseball team. eh?
After his recent asinine comments regarding the latest round of ICE raids, Potter should feel lucky he was not bombarded with a barrage of rotten Del Monte produce.

I was there-they had Oden, then the coach and the GM of the blazers all speak, all were greeted by extremely enthusiastic cheers...when potter was introduced there was some booing (and some cheering and some silence)-not very loud but definitely there. Couldn't really tell if it was people really disliking potter or if people just didn't think he had anything to do with the whole deal, and wanted to hear more from oden...
