News Set Your TiVos!

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Fri, Jun 22 at 4:12 PM

Ronnda Zezula—the kick ass mom who’s been standing up to TriMet on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, who (along with her girlfriend) was kicked off a bus for kissing—is heading into the lion’s den on Monday.

Going on O’Reilly’s show with Lars Larson on Monday. Wish me luck…

I wished her luck, and offered some tips for going toe-to-toe with conservative talking heads: Stick with a few talking points. Don’t get drawn into their rhetorical or baseless or off-point questions. Repeat yourself if necessary. Hammer home your most indisputable point. And be ready for the really offensive question, like “why do you let your teenager be gay?” Matt suggests she uses humor to throw them off guard. Any other tips?

See how she does, 5 pm Monday night, on Fox News.

I suggest she use the truth -- this is America, and we are free to be any damn thing we want to be, whether it's a lesbian, a transexual, or a fat old man. That's what this country is all about.

She will not change his opinion or anybody else's who listens to the show so what's the point? People listen to shows like that because it simply reflects their own bias. There are no listeners of Lars Larson "on the fence".

If you can't change the mind of people who don't agree with you, then why ever speak up?

Plus it's a great opportunity to tell Lars Larson what she thinks of him.

This is a very tough gig. The moment she starts to make any headway at all, O'Reilly will shout over the top of her and/or cut off her microphone.

Its a set up, IMO.

I agree, this will be tough. Trying to convince people with ‎those type of beliefs (ie. right wing conservative) who are ‎large in the public eye and more likely than not have an ‎infallible view of themselves (ie I'm always right, you're ‎always wrong) she's going to have her work cut out for her. ‎Anything to throw them off guard would be the best thing to ‎do, such as "Lars, you're telling me homosexuality is evil? ‎So you're saying you've never pleasured yourself to a video ‎of two women having sex?"‎

Having spoken with Ronnda, I believe she will be amazing against Bill. She is passionate about her point of view and will not back down. I say good luck to her and keep fighting! If you want to see how to help her and the girls out more, go to our organization's website (www.fightoutloud.org).

Fight OUT Loud is a non-profit organization focused on helping individuals who are victims of discrimination and hate.

Um...embarrassing. I had no idea my little shout-out to Amy and Matt, who have been SO FABULOUS in their advocacy, would be posted. Thanks for the advice, people. The greater error for us would be in not being there to give the girls' side, even if it falls on some deaf ears.

It is remarkable to me how much a kiss can drive adults bonkers! Did anyone see this story on the AP?

Newark School Censors Yearbook Photo of Gay Couple Kissing

Read some of the posts on the "Sound Off" board. I am thrilled to see some supportive and rational posts, but floored at how much hatred can be generated from one single kiss. Especially with it being a class photo spread...

This world is a crazy place, I admire anyone who doesn't fit the cookie-cutter norm for surviving in it.

will somebody put youtube this on the blog tomorrow? i don't have cable.

Why does anyone with half a brain go on these circus-shows? Doing so gives the appearance of validating their brand of corpratist agenda-driven bullshit talking points as actual unbiased news.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I went on because they were going to discuss my kid and her girlfriend whether I was there or not. Not sure I did much good, but I think the conversation would have been far worse from the two if I had not been in on it.

Shesh anyone with 2 brain cells would have known that by two girls kissing/Making out in public would bring this kind of reaction among the other bus riders. Duh.
