It’s probably obvious that I’m an unapologetic fan of YA fiction. My favorite drunken conversational fallback topics are: 1. How I will never meet a boy that I like as much as Ponyboy from The Outsiders (sad drunk); 2. How Christopher Pike is better than R.L. Stine (angry drunk); 3. How everyone should read everything Philip Pullman has ever written because he is the Greatest Ever (friendly drunk). And maybe it’s because it’s summer (well, theoretically), but I’m especially all about it right now.
I just ran across the Summer Blog Blast Tour, a series of interviews with authors of YA fiction held at “multiple sites across the blogosphere.” Interviews started going up on Sunday, and there’s a master list/schedule here. It’s a great concept—coordinating tons of like-minded blogs around one project—and a great reference, both of YA authors and lit blogs.

I am a lover and avid reader of YA fiction. I lucked out in my career choice because I am a middle school Literature teacher. In fact, our class just finished the year off reading The Outsiders.
I also think Philip Pullman is fantastic! I just stumbled upon the first His Dark Materials book years ago and decided to read it and I was immediately hooked on all things Philip Pullman.
Right now I'm really into The Warriors series and, of course, I'm waiting with bated breath for the last installment of Harry Potter.
Anyway, thanks for the link to the YA fiction authors discussions. Happy summer reading!

Too bad no Susan Cooper. But still, wow, that's impressive. Looking at that author list I feel so out of touch. And rightfully/regretfully so, of course, since as I became a less-young adult, so did my reading habits adjust. But, in general, I love YA, and I know that the genre includes some great books that I've yet to read. The His Dark Materials books at the front of my queue (I've been meaning to read them for years, and I have to get through them before the movie comes out).

One great YA author I have been enjoying lately is Jonathan Stroud, of the Bartimaeous Trilogy, and also The Last Seige. Fun stuff.
