« Good Morning, News! | Main | Welcome to Development Hell. »

After 47 absolutely terrible minutes that were more Greco-Roman wrestling (see the above photo for proof) than basketball, last night’s Game Three of the NBA Finals came down to the final thrilling 60 seconds. And then the officials blew it.
LeBron James was fouled on his final shot, one that would have put him on the free throw line with a chance to tie the game with seconds left. That is, if the obvious foul was called. Which it wasn’t. Now the Spurs are one game away from another championship trophy on their mantles.
No wonder this series is one of the lowest rated ever.
Please...move game 4 to today...let this garbage get over with.
that was horrible. it made the knicks vs. rockets finals look exciting. cleveland can't shoot (what the hell happened to damon jones?). Lebron has no post game to pass out of yet (but he will). Varejao clunked it off his leg in crunchtime and took THE shot of the night spinning in the lane out of control like the freaky sideshow bob he is.
"maybe this is the finals we'll fall in love with the spurs." hah. this finals is in a word: crap. bring on the draft!
Of course, the Spurs' title run has been one completely manufactured by the league (look no further than the Suns' Stoudamire and Diaw being suspended for being 30 feet away from an altercation for proof, not to mention Bruce Bowen's perpetually dirty play not being disciplined at all).
The question, of course, is "Why?" Why would the NBA purposely sick this awful, awful brand of (dare I say it) basketball upon the sporting public when a team that plays the game like it should be played (ala the great Lakers and Celtics teams of the 1980s), the Phoenix Suns, are there for the taking. I mean, if the league is going to rig its outcomes, at least do it in such a way that makes sense, right? The deal is, the Spurs are a roster full of international players at a time when the league (read: David Stern) is looking to market itself as a global product. What better way to do this than to be able to present guys like Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, Fabricio Oberto, and Francisco Elson to their native countries as champions? (Tim Duncan was born in the Virgin Islands, but I'm not sure that counts).
The point is, it's marketing, it's money driven, and it's making the NBA completely unwatchable. Incidentally, it's also no coincidence that the image problems that have been caused to the league by guys like Stephen Jackson and any number of former (and still current) Portland Trailblazers, are negated by Duncan, the basketball Tiger Woods.
Now.
Is there any baseball on?
How did the league engineer it so the Cavs missed 15 of their first 16 three pointers?
I'm not one for conspiracies, except the whole Patrick Ewing draft thing, I just think the Spurs are a great team, who just happen to be PAINFULLY boring. Plus the NBA is poorly officiated, too afraid of players being "thugs," and unprepared for the outbreak of Euro flopping.
Then again, in two weeks Greg Oden will be a Blazer, so Anderson Varejao and Fabricio Oberto can disappear for all I care.
WRONG!
As long as David Stern is running the show the league will be nothing but conspiracy.
I have several examples that can be pointed to over the past ten years or so.
And please note that I didn't blame the Spurs beating the Cavs three straight on conspiracy.
I don't know jeremy. if anything san antonio's dominance as a model sports franchise proves the league is not fixed. stern wants new york, boston, and LA back in the hunt for sure. those teams get much better ratings.
I think the ewing draft was fixed---the refs really hosed the blazers and kings when they faced LA in the western conference finals but....as avery johnson once said: "you got to make your shots". The blazers choked, doug christy chipped the orange paint off the rim in game 7....and Lebron had an open look and clanked it. not to mention ALL the chances cleveland had to prove they belong in the finals with SA and they didn't. SA is just better then everyone this year.
GO SPURS GO!
As someone born and raised in San Antonio, I can say that I am glad our boring by-the-book team is winning :)

Seriously, the NCAA softball world series last week was more watchable.
