Envy. One of the seven deadly sins.
How about "Best attempts at pretending you give two shits about sports"?
Couldn't the WW spring for a nicer shirt? That one looks like it was made by a monkey with a spray paint can. He's Greg Oden, people!
envious of what? Frankly it sucks for both WW and PM to have basically the same cover. No two ways around it. Not a happy accident. What I'm wondering is either would have actually blinked had they known prior to going to press that the other was doing. I seriously doubt it. Which is making me think that taking the most obvious bright spot in Portland's recent history isn't very creative. I'm excited for Portland because of what Oden potentially can bring. But both of these covers bore the shit out of me.
I tried to read through the WW article, but good god it was horrible. I don't think I could get through one "best of" without cringing at the writing...
The Portland mag was decent. They of course had to plan that issue months ago so to have Oden on the cover was somewhat refreshing for "old media" like magazines.
Right. Creative bankruptcy. Both magazines should absolutely ignore the most exciting sports story in recent Portland history.
Are you expecting Portland Monthly to be Adbusters?
I travelled 38 hours by car (to and from Vegas) with my two best friends to shoot Greg for PM's cover. We worked our asses off because we're excited about Greg coming to town, and we wanted to share that with the city. We do give two shits about sports.
3 days after he was signed, we were on the road to Vegas (while he was still at summer league). The following day we shot him in a conference room at his hotel, and on the 5th day the cover was on press.
I applaud the publishers of PM for jumping at the chance to put something out of their norm on the cover, for being topical, and for dropping everything they had planned to do so.
Say what you will about my shot. Is it going to be on the cover of Flaunt Magazine next? No. Was it trying to be? No.
We wanted to show you who Greg is...a sweet, talented, 19 year old kid who's going to kick some ass this year for the blazers.
He even signed our balls.

Portland picked ODEN!?
