Developers of the Mississippi Lofts are setting up a dunk tank at the Mississippi street fair tomorrow, so local residents can get the chance to take their revenge on them for going ahead with the controversial development.
The tank, which will cost $5 for 3 baseballs (throw a ball, hit the target, dunk the developer) will be manned by all three developers.
“We want to show the neighborhood we are still good sports,” says Bill Jackson, who has led the development through thick and thin, and multiple trips to the Historic Landmarks Commission to pass muster with the NIMBY neighbors.
But let’s hope the developers have judged things right. It’s all well and good to be a “good sport,” but with the lofts starting at $289,000, frankly I’m tempted to go up there and just chuck a baseball right at their faces. Never mind the dunk tank…
Diesel, are you suggesting I should stop fighting with someone about something? Anything? Are you saying I should "just calm down?" Clearly you've misjudged the cut of my jib, sir!
And the money people pay for the baseballs goes to what?
bix, great question.
Matt, no, I'm not saying stop fighting, especially with the little dogs. All I'm saying is that this fight has been going on for soooooooo long it is getting tiring. Granted, I want to see the development because I view it as better than an empty garbage strewn lot or a cinder block warehouse that got tagged every so often.
It's Friday and I'm in a fightin' mood. Where are we meeting for beers?
Mate I'm off the booze for the summer...
Is the hot blonde going to be there??
"off the booze" so not Portland speak. It is more like the following:
"drinking coffee now..."
"off the sauce"
"back on the wagon..."
"no thanks, i'm a vegetarian..."
Good sports indeed, I suppose they will be toweling themselves off with 100 dollar bills from the sales of their condos. Where are the proceeds from the dunk tank going?
Someone should pay the $5.00 and proceed to throw their 3 softballs as hard as they can in 3 different directions of Mississippi.

can we just let the fight over n. mississippi development die already. it isn't just on n. mississippi that the "evil" developers are building stuff. it is a part of the city as a whole. it is going to happen whether we like it or not. we need to move forward and instead of fighting tooth and nail against something that is essentially (mind you not 100% but close) decided, go fight for that which isn't decided like Lents or Cully or the areas burgeoning south of Foster.
