Film Even The Governor Has Simpsons Mania

Posted by Scott Moore on Mon, Jul 2 at 1:25 PM

Perhaps signaling that he’s got some free time on his hands now that the 2007 legislative session is kaput, Gov. Kulongoski is throwing his weight behind an issue of utmost statewide import: Bringing the Simpsons Movie premiere to Oregon.

In case you haven’t heard—or don’t give a rat’s ass—USA Today is holding a contest to see which Springfield in America should host the film’s opening. Obviously, Kulongoski wants Oregon’s Springfield to get it.

From a press release just sent out by the gubernatorial office:

“With Simpsons creator Matt Groening a native Oregonian and references to our state littered across the show, I think it is clear that the Simpson’s Springfield is Springfield, Oregon,” said Gov. Kulongoski. “In Oregon we have always held a special place in our hearts for the Simpsons family and it would be an honor to welcome them home for their movie debut. I encourage all Oregonians to join me in voting for our Springfield.”

That’s much funnier if you read it in the voice of Mayor Quimby.
