Events Rocket Open House Party

If you haven’t made it over to the bright red building on East Burnside that houses both the Chesterfield Club and the Rocket, tonight’s the night—the whole building is opening its doors for a blowout open house party with DJs, live music, and lots of pretty people for your viewing pleasure. And speaking of pretty, don’t miss the view from Rocket’s top-floor balcony—and word is there will also be tours of Rocket’s uber-sustainable rooftop garden.

By open house, I assume they mean a second chance to make a first impression.

That was nice. A lot of stark, empty rooms on a scorching-hot day with a reasonably-priced bar on the bottom of the building and another (I didn't check out the prices) up top. Some good music being spun by friendly people downstairs but no free or walkable refreshments or reason for anyone to hang out for longer than it took to see the place. If the easygoing sophistication of new places like this wants to fast-shift to the unaffordable soullessness that overcame Seattle, this would be a good start. Someone could have bought a keg, gotten the realtor-type hosts to loosen up, cranked the volume on the tunes and this would have been a good party, and I wouldn't now be fearing for the character of East Burnside as it shines up one property at a time. An opportunity to help shape the spirit of a neighborhood going in a busy new direction: totally wasted.
