It is our illustrious history. Portland and Oregon in general has had a sad history when dealing with race relations. In the early 20th century, Oregon had the largest chapter of the KKK and grew at an amazing rate for being a western and northern state. Portland was also the headquarters for WAR (White Aryan Resistance) in the 80s. Back then, it was commonplace to find groups of skinheads mulling around downtown. There was also the beating death of an Ethiopian student in 1988 by a group of skinheads. This brought the story to the forefront in the media and opened people's eyes in Portland. Tom Metzger, the leader was eventually found responsible for the killing and made poor by the courts. He is still around though, preaching his hate.
In the 80's, when militias were growing in numbers around the nation, Oregon had their own too. Some were based on the constitution etc, others were religions and others were purely White. After the Oklahoma Bombing, when Militias came under both public and federal scrutiny, many disbanded or began to fly under the radar. Now, with the nation focused only on external sources of harm and the quagmire of Iraq, I wonder if domestically, these types of groups are growing. With rise of use of the Internet over the past 12 years, the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center report an increase in membership of race related groups (i.e. anti Black, anti Jew, anti White even.)
I highly doubt this event will take place in Portland. Maybe in the woods outside of Portland where they can use Federal free speech laws to gain access. Portland is way to liberal and the businesses here would not allow them to play there. Lastly, the general public would protest, creating a situation where the Police would have to intervene to "protect" someone and thus, the PPD would probably prevent the event from occurring for the safety of the participants. Just my two cents.

Also, posting this doesn't seem to be counterproductive—if you are into this sort of hatred, you probably knew about it long before I blogged it. Like most people I know, I was pretty surprised that this event existed, and that it was coming our way.

No need to get too worried about these idiots. They will hold their concert somewhere in the boonies and I think they keep the location secret (probably to avoid protesters). I read somewhere else that less than 100 people generally show up to this, so it isn't exactly a rampaging horde.

I just picked up Aryan Rebel's "Spirit of 33" at the Mississippi Street Fair for a buck! I have yet to listen to it, but it's got the legendary line up of Hot on drums, Dicker on bass, V1 on guitar 1, Haui on guitar 2 and the unstoppable Barfly handling singing duties. It was put on out Imperium Records, based here in PDX.

Some tribalisms are based on immutable characteristics. Some are based on beliefs, whether or not they integrate notions of some afterlife. Some are based on little more than a category of the tax code for providing an exemption or grant.

How could I ever get to the point of addressing a nuanced attack on the poison of tax-code based tribalisms (relative to equal privileges and immunities, and therefor OPPORTUNITY) if the following phrase is deemed hate-speech by some:
