Politics “Declaring War on Straight America: Big Mistake!”

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Thu, Aug 23 at 11:50 AM

David Crowe at Restore America finally got wind of the Know Thy Neighbor project—which plans to publish a database of everyone signing the petitions to refer domestic partnerships and anti-discriminiation legislation to next year’s ballot. We wrote about the project this week, though Crowe read about it in the Salem daily paper.

Of course, Crowe is outraged. How dare anyone meddle with the home life (by publishing an address that’s public info) of someone who’s trying to meddle with gay folks’ home life? No fair!!

Americans dislike tactics of fear and intimidation. It smacks of Nazi Germany, Stalin, Mao, Arafat, and fanatical Islam, and is the harbinger of things to come. Such an announcement supports the common view that this determined special interest group will stop at nothing to force our acceptance not only of their behavior, but our compliance to their wishes and world view.
Gloves Off!
Americans have had enough. Forcing acceptance of their sexual behavior against our will, at the price of our right to make moral distinctions as families and communities, has now become more than most Americans can tolerate.

With a plethora of states and a heavy majority of voters saying “NO” to same sex marriage, along with a deepening disrespect for the will of the voters by our elected officials and this special interest group, Americans are fed up. [Not as far as we saw this past weekend… -Eds.]

By this tactic, the homosexual lobby and their sympathizers are asking for a confrontation that they alone seek, and now appears necessary.

No more Placating, Appeasing, or Pacifying!

The days of appeasing, placating and pacifying the homosexual community are over. It doesn’t work. And neither will it work in Oregon.

Neville Chamberlain and the English people found out that appeasing Hitler and his Nazi sympathizers did not work. And neither has it worked with the communists, the Ayatollahs, Arafat, Castro, Chavez or North Korea.

Crowe signs off with another plea for his supporters to sign the petitions.

Can someone tell me when the Christian right ever placated or appeased the gays? Was it when they pushed Measure 36 by saying they weren’t opposed to extending basic rights—or when they turned around and balked at these basic rights, claiming they violate the ‘intent’ of Measure 36?

Comments

And worst of all, wouldn't one have to say that the rhetoric sounds a lot like open exhortation to violence?

Does anyone else find it ironic that he's blantanly utilizing fear and intimidation in this desperate plea, while, in the same breath, says that "Americans dislike tactics of fear and intimidation."

I think by "No more Placating, Appeasing, or Pacifying!" they mean that the righteous wing didn't put out wanted posters of homosexuals the way they did of abortion doctors.

Good lord... this reads like troll parody.

The whole thing is incoherent crazy-land nonsense. Wow... just wow.

Just when I was getting used to the cushy life of placating and pacifying. Damn, enjoyed it while it lasted.

If I had come across this on my own I would have assumed it was snark, written by some one intent on undermining the homosexual discrimination position by presenting its arguments in a manner so breathtakingly fatuous and self-evidently wrong as to be laughable.

So the people trying to stop you, Mr. Crowe, from writing discrimination against homosexuals into law are acting like Nazis?

You know, if I were shopping around for a historical analogy with which to vilify my opponents, Nazis would be the one I would want to conspicuously avoid, in this case, what with the shipping homosexuals to death camps and all.

I don’t think I could have written anything that undercuts Mr. Crowe’s position as effectively as the thing he has written himself.

Why is it that those with the most "Nazi"-like tactics and political bent seem to call those that disagree with them "Nazis"?

Because there is no truly logical and sensible argument available, he uses that argument because it distracts decent people from his evilness and encourages others that share his sickness.

This isn't journalism, or even informed opinion. It's a high-school rant.

but, well, that's what I've come to expect from the Mercury. I wish it were otherwise.

Thank you to all for having such a vigorous discussion about our website and intentions. Let me see if I can answer some of the misconceptions I am coming across, and clarify our mission.

First and foremost, KTN is about posting the names of people who sign anti-equality petitions against the GLBT community. The reason for doing so is to promote dialog between the two opposing sides, and if you check out http://www.knowthyneighbor.blogs.com, you'll see it has been quite successful at it's goal.

Another reason that we posted these names is because we knew we were dealing with a very small but virulently dishonest group who would stop at nothing to try and impose their will on those of us in the GLBT community. We knew this group was going to use underhanded tactics, like hire outside of the state, paid per the signature gatherers, and fraud would be rampant. May I direct your attention to:

http://knowthyneighbor.org/fraud.html

Our website played a key role in catching this fraud, and since our website went up, thousands of complaints have been filed because people could see their names were stolen. As a result of this fraud there is an ongoing criminal investigation into the whole debacle.

When we first started in Massachusetts back in September 2005, the same fears came to the surface. People thought that this list would turn into a fiasco of hate crimes perpetrated by gays and their supporters. The mere posting of this already public information was spun as "intimidation". For the record, there has not been one single verifiable case of harassment made as a result of our efforts. Much like the lamentations of how much ill would befall us all if equality in marriage were allowed to exist, there is no substance to the claim. In the years that we have been in operation we have proven that our mission is not one of malice. We want people to talk, and in doing so become more fully informed so that they can realize that their gay Aunt, friend, neighbor is just like them, and deserving of the same equality they enjoy.

Promoting equality is not just the right thing to do, it's the American thing to do. Our country is strong because of it's diversity, not in spite of it. In a melting pot of all cultures on this planet we have to find a way for all of us to all live in respectful harmony. The only thing there is no room for is bigotry. Elevating the GLBT community to the level of equals in marriage in no way diminishes someone else's marriage, or prevents their pursuit of happiness. Please consider visiting the website yourself and leaving us some feedback on our blog. We will all be a little better for the exchange once we Know Thy Neighbor.

Don't believe John Hosty for a minute. I am from Massachusetts and have personally been threatened and harassed because of signing the petition. Books ordered in my name, my phone number given out with the intent of calling my wife and children. Even People driving to my house and yelling names and swears as my children play in the yard. If this isn't intimidation - i don't know what is. Aaron Toleos lives down my street but still hasn't shown the courage or fortitude to come to my house for this "discussion". Know thy neighbor my foot. They will call you a Nazi, and a KKK man and demonize you if they don't agree with you. Yes go to the blog and see the hatred they espouse,

170,000 people is not a small group

"For the record, there has not been one single verifiable case of harassment made as a result of our efforts"

FOR THE RECORD - THIS IS A LIE. THIS GROUP INCLUDING Hosty disrupted a peaceful "let the people vote" rally in worcester MA. The police told them to go away and clear the sidewalks which they ignored. Then one of them walked smack dab right up into the podium (an ACLU lawyer i might add) and started to HARASS THE SPEAKERS. She was escorted away (after disobeying the police order to stay away) fell dowN (they will tell you she was pushed) and cried ouch. She (of course) is now suing(ACLU)

THAT IS HARASSMENT = YOU HAVE YOUR RALLY I'LL HAVE MINE

YOU HAVE YOUR OPINION - I'LL HAVE MINE

YOU HAVE YOUR VOTE - I'LL HAVE MINE

LOVE THY NEIGHBOR

"LET THE PEOPLE VOTE"

If people are interested in verifying the facts, you can always do a criminal complaint search in Massachusetts for KnowThyNeighbor.org and see that not one single legitimate complaint has been made.

Paul refers to a rally in Worcester Ma back in December 2006. Google the name Larry Cirignano and you will find the truth to this story. Larry Cirignano was the head of the Catholic Citizenship group who resigned after assault& battery, and civil rights violation charges were filed against him by the Worcester DA.

When pressed to answer Senator Edward Augstus' question, "How many people did you have collecting signatures that were volunteers in your organization instead of paid mercenaries?" Kris Mineau, head of VoteOnMarriage replied, "About five." This is verifiable in the minutes of the October 2005 election committee hearing in Boston.

Here is the kind of "Conversation you can expect to have with Know Thy Neighbor....

ROFLMFAO!!!! Silence of the phobes!!!

Hey Paul, Kris says he needs you out there to do your great job of "shouting down" the opposition. I wonder how embarrased your kids are to have to admit you're their father.

Posted by: John Hosty-Grinnell | September 01, 2007 at 04:49 PM

If I remember correctly Greg Kimball the KTN treasurer said that Kris Mineau's "groundswell" of support "needed Viagra". That was another great laugh!

Posted by: John Hosty-Grinnell | September 01, 2007 at 04:53 PM

Figures our next president(Hillary Clinton) would say something as completely sappy as that! Watch out folks for this skull and bones dupe!

Posted by: musclehippy | September 01, 2007 at 08:02 PM

"I wonder how embarrased your kids are to have to admit you're their father."

What is this supposed to mean? Is this supposed to make me feel bad? or angry?

Its very disturbing this fascination you have with my children. I would call it cowardly. Leave my children out of it you pervert.

Posted by: Paul Jamieson | September 02, 2007 at 11:31 AM

LOL, you're insane Paul. I am simply stating that I believe they are ashamed of you.

Posted by: John Hosty-Grinnell | September 02, 2007 at 12:22 PM

Mr. Jamieson knows EXACTLY what you mean JH. Our little god fearing patriot is now running out of proverbs and articles to cut and paste. Know how I can tell? His blog entries are like one or maybe two sentences long! LMAO!

Posted by: musclehippy | September 02, 2007 at 03:39 PM

Your comments are truly disturbing.

Posted by: Paul Jamieson | September 02, 2007 at 06:10 PM

See what I mean. =))

Posted by: musclehippy | September 02, 2007 at 09:34 PM

Those poor poor kids. Can you imagine having him for a father?

Posted by: John Hosty-Grinnell | September 02, 2007 at 09:41 PM

Why not go over to Blue Mass Group and embarass yourself some more Hosty. You are pathetic.

Posted by: Paul Jamieson | September 03, 2007 at 06:53 AM

I'm sure the Jameson children (if there are any) already hate thier father. Now they'll simply be humiliated once we all know who he is. And Paul, Parrot, Melvin, when I do know. I promise to acknoledge you when/if I see you. And I promise, it won't be violent, but it won't be kind either.

BIGOT.

Posted by: ryan charisma | September 03, 2007 at 08:44 AM

What's truly pathetic is a grown man who lies all the time, gets caught, doesn't care, and somehow thinks he is still fooling everyone. Paul, I really think you are insane. If not for yourself, get some help for your kids. With the way your mind warps reality you must be causing them all sorts of social problems.

BTW, the flame war over on BMG back in July had a lot more to do with party lines than just me, but hey, if you want to give me that much credit, I'll take it! ;)

Posted by: John Hosty-Grinnell | September 03, 2007 at 09:36 AM

What is with my kids!

I will sue you for threatening my children. You are trying to use them as a weapon to scare me off. It is perverted and could be criminal. If you continue, you will be subject to a lawsuit. You are verbally abusive. In domestic violence circles it is tantamount to physical abuse, and when it involves children it is child abuse. You are attacking my children. And Toleos better stepp up before he gets a visit from the Boxford Police.

Posted by: Paul Jamieson | September 03, 2007 at 10:02 AM

I think you are proving you are insane and you should have your kids taken away until you have a psychiatric evaluation. I have said nothing here that even comes close to threats, I have merely said that they are likely ashamed of you. Who wouldn't be, you're a tool! By all means, bring what is said here to the police so they can have a good laugh at you too.

whatever, shut the fuck up. please do contact the police, they'll tell you to close you're pie hole too. you spout off to us consisently how gays are child molesters, pedophiles and the list goes on and on. you're far more guilty of the crimes you insinuate against us. so stick that up your Christian ass and smoke it. fuck you, you're children should be ashamed of you.

Posted by: ryan charisma | September 03, 2007 at 11:20 AM

what kind of "men" attack other peoples' children?

Posted by: Paul Jamieson | September 03, 2007 at 12:45 PM

Paul,

Attacking other people's children??? Pretty much that WAS the strategy of the VoteOnMarriage campaign, let's see... umm Mitt Romney, umm Focus on the Family, umm most of the original signers of the petition, um the Mass Family Institute, umm the Catholic Church, the Black Ministerial Alliance, the Supreme Court of New York, umm Kris Mineau, Evelyn Reilly, everyone that says, "a child needs to be raised by a mother and a father, " umm David Parker, the Worthlins, pretty much all of the anti-ssm protesters at the State House, many legislators, Bronwyn Loring, etc etc.

Those kind of "men"

Posted by: Tom Lang | September 03, 2007 at 12:52 PM

There must be much truth to my speculation about Paul's kids being ashamed of him. I've obviously hit a raw nerve because he has resorted to his spin again.

Paul, this is not your fantasy world, this is reality. I said I think your kids must be ashamed of you, is that right? Where is the part where I am threatening them? It is not there because it is a figment of your imagination. That's because you are either a liar or insane, and that is why they would be ashamed of you. That and the fact that you are a bigot. They would be better off as orphans than be raised by the insane. Those poor kids.

Posted by: John Hosty-Grinnell | September 03, 2007 at 12:56 PM

You are using my children to make a point against me. It doesn't matter whether you are right or wrong, it is the kind of low brow sophmoric and perverted pleasure you seem to get when you think you are hitting a "nerve".

"They would be better off as orphans than be raised by the insane."

This is threatening. You do not know me or my children. Your intent is too insinuate to people that because I have a different point of view, that I am "insane". That because I signed a petition I am a Nazi.

This is what Oregon needs to see, the vile, low down scrum like you and Lang attacking children.

Don't play stupid with me, you know very well what you are doing.

Posted by: Paul Jamieson | September 03, 2007 at 06:33 PM

Ahhhh...poor Mr. Jamieson. Still looking for an audience that will actually give you 10 seconds worth of their precious time to listen to your vitriolic tripe! Well, what can we expect baby? You and that other crackpot Mineau sure as hell never got the attention you thought you were going to recieve in Massachusetts now did ya? LOL! Must be a tremendous blow to your warped world view eh loser. Well, since the kind hearted religious bigots of Oregon have decided to toss the gauntlet down(again)maybe you can hook up with the illustrious Mr. Lon Mabon. We had a fun time ripping his bigoted amendment to pieces back in '92 and we'll have a fun time doing it again!! Now don't get me pissed off PJ baby or I'll just have to sing ya another lullaby! LMFAO!

This coming from an anarchist who thinks he can make petri dish babies and start a new race of Frankensteins.

Tell us all about your "plans" to make babies. I want the folks here to really understand you.

Why don't YOU do the honors Mr. Jamieson. I'm just DYIN' to read how YOU "explain" Same Sex Procreation! LOL!

Sorry Dr Frankenstein

That is your sad, pathetic gig.

Show everybody what a freak you are.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Whats the matter Musclehippy?

Someone tell you to lay off?

Don't worry Oregon will know all about you soon enough!!
