After a particularly long weekend that found me experiencing the worst of modern air travel—delayed flights, Delta changing my seat assignments, crying babies, security taking away my toothpaste, a layover in “Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport”—I am particularly upset with the airline industry.
But this report on Consumerist, about Lufthansa possible adding bunk beds to their economy section, makes me very excited. Granted, some issues still need to be worked out (where do your bags go?, how do you eat?, will there be blatant “Mile High Club” violations?), but the idea of being able to lie down for an entire flight is quite appealing to me. Especially on long international flights, or planes with very little legroom for a tall gentlemen like myself.
Your thoughts? Would you rather lie down when you fly? Does the above image make it seem too creepy?
what if the person above you has gas?
it's the same as the person next to you having gas, i'm sure. i'm more worried about everyone taking their shoes off.
i have to fly a lot for work, and i think it's brilliant. i have come to loath the cramped conditions, the person in front of you putting their seat in your lap, etc. i would much rather sleep through the experience, as long as they wake me up for the view of mt. hood coming home.
Uh... that looks like how they crammed people into slave ships. Only with cushions. Not a good image.

I don't think it looks like the slave ship at all. It's just a bed, jeez.
Yes, yes, yes. Of questionable benefit for
Beds would be nice, but I would just like to be able to bring a water bottle and some toothpaste with me when I fly. Is that too much to ask? And, I don't want to have to take my shoes off to get through security. I can't believe we are still putting up with this bullshit. I guess we should just be happy we aren't handcuffed during the flight.

It reminds me of the spaceship from The Fifth Element, only in skeletal form.
Nice, but a little creepy. I hope the seats have straps and belts that support people while they rest, or we could have an everyone-on-the-floor moment if the plane shakes at all.
