TV Kevin Smith to Direct Battlestar and Heroes.

Posted by Erik Henriksen on Tue, Aug 28 at 9:52 AM

***NERD ALERT.***

Remember when Quentin Tarantino directed that episode of CSI and it was just as shitty, exploitative, and cheesy as every other episode of CSI? (I’m pretty sure the same thing happened when he directed an episode of ER, but that was a while ago, so I can’t really remember.)

Anyway. I was reminded of Tarantino’s lackluster TV directing when I read the news that Kevin Smith will be helming episodes of Battlestar Galactica and Heroes next season. Though it’s all sitting on my hard drive, I haven’t seen Heroes yet—I’ve heard from people that it’s either (A) eh, okay, or (B) really stupid. But since everyone who knows me has had to tell me, at one time or another, to shut the fuck up already about how goddamn great Starbuck is, it’s probably pretty obvious how much I love Battlestar. I also like Kevin Smith, more or less, with the “more” being his Clerks films and the “less” being things that begin with “Jersey” and end with “Girl.”

So it’ll be interesting to see how this all shakes out. My hunch is that the studios keep the reigns so tight on these shows that it doesn’t make a huge difference who’s directing what (Joss Whedon’s episode of The Office was solid, but if you didn’t know Whedon directed it from the credits, there’d be no way to tell), so Smith’s episodes probably won’t be crazy different. That said, a scene with Edward James Olmos and Jason Mewes would probably be really awesome to see.

Whatever...Heroes rocked

The Battlestar episode isn't going to happen, but Heroes is still on, apparently.

I really enjoyed Heroes. You have to be patient with it, though. It takes a good five or six episodes before the show really finds its footing. Also, the guy who plays the main villain is god awful. Other than that, I thought it was great.

Thanks, Beaton. Also, I love this:

Will the media be in an uproar?

"No, they probably won't," Moore said of SciFi Channel's publicity team having to counter this story. "Something like that only registers on message boards."

As for Heroes, cool. I'm planning on digging into it this weekend.

yeah, heroes is pretty godawful (as is most of the acting on it-- including the new Spock), but at the same time, it's completely compelling, and if you make it through the first three eps, you'll probably find yourself marathoning the rest of 'em.

it's no battlestar, though, not by a long shot.
