Gossip Thank Goodness for Amy Winehouse

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Wed, Aug 22 at 1:14 PM

What with Lindsay Lohan, Britney & Co darting in and our of rehab with their shiny hair and perfect teeth, it’s nice to have Amy Winehouse (or, as my BF affectionately calls her, Amy WineHORSE (get it?)) around to be a good example for today’s youth, and to show them that you don’t need perfect teeth—or teeth at all—to be able to go to rehab, or to get people to try to make you go to rehab, or to go to rehab and then say you didn’t, and also that smoking is bad. Thanks, Amy.

OK, this is a two part question:
1) Is Amy Winehouse over yet?
2) If not, can someone please explain her appeal to me?

To me, she's soul music for people who don't like/know about soul. Her biggest redeeming quality is her "bad girl" persona, but it seems like the also Ronson-produced Lily Allen is a "bad girl" too, but doing so in a constructive and witty manor. Winehouse is just a fuck-up, but is that all? Is everyone just really that into how over the edge she is? If that's the case, why is Pete Doherty such a laughing stock?

I really don't get it. Can someone explain it to me?

what i don't get is the facination with people who "don't get" amy winehouse and then try to "figure her out". nobody tries to "get" justin timberlake, or "figure out" other pop artists.

i heard her songs on the radio and liked them. i'll probably buy her cd on itunes. when i heard she was going to rehab i thought it was funny. and i don't listen to a lot of soul music. but i don't think her music is soul. it's pop. right?

is that really her?

amy winehouse is crap.

amy winehouse is crap.

Obviously, that's not Amy Winehouse. It's a woman doing a comic impersonation of her.
