Gossip Who is Ving Rhames?

Posted by Matt Davis on Fri, Aug 3 at 2:06 PM

I was only saying last week how sad it is when you only realize who someone is in awkward circumstances—like when their dogs maul people to death, for example. As has happened today!

Still, dog-maulings aside, I’d never heard of him. But it turns out Ving Rhames played Marsellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction. And that “The Interrupter” has a psychosexual fixation with old photographs of him (thanks to Gorilla Mask for the link):
INTERRUPTER: Obsessed with Ving Rhames.

I don’t know any Irvings, much less many ‘Vings. But it’s one of the most awesome abbreviations I’ve ever heard.

I'm going to say that the reason you didn't know Ving Rhames is b/c you're from the U.K. That's the only decent excuse I could think of.

That, and because I only really enjoy seeing movies where at least three members of the audience are wearing hornrim spectacles/black polo necks. Or one beret. One beret will do me. If anybody's got a beret on in the line, I'm seeing the movie they are.

Joke.

To test your theory Hula, I'll put "is wondering whether many people from England know who Ving Rhames is" on my Facebook profile, and see if my English mates respond in the affirmative.

Learn up, Matt!

Beyond Pulp Fiction, he was a mainstay of the Mission Impossible films, was the star with Jon Voight in the vastly underseen Rosewood, and was a recurring cast member in ER for half a season. But the best thing he's done has to be the title role about Don King. Genius.

Right, will do...

[tips cap, apologetically]

Who is Ving Rhames? A fucking jerk.

Who is Ving Rhames? A fucking jerk.

If you want to live here, Matt, you have to speak the language.

It turns out NOBODY in England knows who he is. So I'm going to file "Who is Ving Rhames?" away with my other "preparing for citizenship" questions.
