Music Qui - Tonight

As a kid I was convinced that if I dared attend a Jesus Lizard concert, David Yow would leap from the stage and eat my very soul. But hey, maybe that’s just me.

The enigmatic, and a bit frightening, frontman for Qui (and formerly the Jesus Lizard), is known for his onstage (and offstage) antics, making him the center of attention at every live performance.

Plus bonus points go out to whoever booked Monkey Trick (the world’s only Jesus Lizard tribute band) to open the show.

Qui performs tonight at the Doug Fir. Guard your soul.

I saw Jesus Lizard at Lollapalooza in L.A. in, I think, '94.

Halfway through the set, David Yow jumps into the audience, runs up to this very overweight woman who's seated about ten rows back, and just... sits on her. He straddles her like he's mounting a horse and then he's singing right in her face.

He stayed there for the next two songs.

It was pretty much the best thing ever.

Holy fuck! I was there!! Not only that, but I have photos of the whole thing. The poor woman is crying the entire time. This happened mere seconds after Yow used my teenage skull as a stepping-stone to leap off the stage.

He was wearing cowboy boots.

Whoa! That's awesome!

I wasn't close enough to see the tears; though I'm really not surprised. Dude is terrifying.

1993 Milwaukee Wisconisn. I saw Yow perform almost three songs with a female midget on his shoulders, until he finally threw her into the crowd.

FTW!

Ezra, if you're still checking this out, please email me those pics to use on the Jesus Lizard webpage (http://www.thejesuslizard.net). My contact info can be found on the main page.
