TV Buffy Fans: Will Giles Get His Own Show?

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Tue, Sep 4 at 2:05 PM

This just in from the Guardian UK: actor Anthony Head (better known as “Rupert Giles” from TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has announced the character is this close to being green lit for his own show—and the pilot will be produced by none other than Buffy creator Joss Whedon! Wait for it… okay, go. EEEEEEE!!!!

Plans for the long-mooted Buffy spin-off Ripper, starring the vampire slayer’s British “watcher”, Rupert Giles, played by Anthony Head, are reportedly finally underway. Anthony Head’s website announces: “We can now confirm that ‘Ripper’ may be given a green light for development. Although one step nearer the possibility of becoming a reality, it is still subject to there being a script.” If it happens, Whedon told fans at San Diego’s Comic-Con that he is looking to produce the 90-minute TV movie for the BBC some time next year.

I still can't get these images from my mind:

It's odd that this is posted as news even though it includes the fact that Joss announced this more than a month ago at Comic-Con, an announcement which also specified we're talking about a 90-minute telefilm, not a series.

Hope springs eternal.
