Artsy Allan McCollum Lecture Tonight

Posted by Chas Bowie on Mon, Oct 15 at 4:39 PM

Allan McCollum, a really fascinating artist, is in Portland at the moment and will be talking about his work at the Fifth Avenue Cinemas (510 SW Hall) tonight, 7:30 pm, free.

McCollum’s most recent project is the Shapes Project, in which he devised a system to create a unique shape for every person on the planet—no duplications. Here’s a mere 7,056 of them:

Another favorite project was McCollum’s “Perpetual Photos” from the ’80s, in which he photographed tiny paintings and hanging photos from old TV shows, and enlarged them into wall sized pieces of art.

It’s amazing how long McCollum has remained relevant and fresh. Tonight’s a great opportunity to hear him talk about his work.
