Oh, this new Band of Horses song is lovely. I wonder who it’s about? Perhaps a long lost lover or maybe a current flame? Let me check the song title…
“Detlef Schrempf”
What the hell?
Band of Horses, let me get this straight. You wrote a beautiful song and then named it after the flat-topped basketball player from Leverkusen Germany? The very same Detlef Schrempf who played for both the Sonics and Blazers, and personified the stereotype of ugly Eastern European guys with long-range shooting ability? Why Detlef and not, say, Dalibor Bagari? Or what about Stojko Vrankovi? Everyone knows the poetic on-court skills of Vrankovi influenced countless musicians the world over.
Whatever.
MP3: Band of Horses - Detlef Schrempf
Band of Horses’ Cease To Begin is in stores tomorrow and last I checked, Schrempf is still an assistant coach for the Sonics. He better give Kevin Durant a flat-top.
First read this article about Detlef. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/basketball/319531_detlef13.html Realize that the Sonics are likely leaving town. Now read the lyrics of the song. Still don't see a relationship?
The lyrics:
And take a little walk when the worst is to come
When I saw you looking like I never thought
And say you're at a loss or forgot that words can do more than harm
The town is gonna talk, but these people do not
See things through to the very minimal
But what's it gonna cost to be gone?
If we see you like I hoped we never would
When eyes can't look at you any other way,
Any other way, any other way
When eyes can't look at you any other way,
Any other way, any other way
So take it as a song or a lesson to learn
And sometime soon be better than you were
If you say you're gonna go, then be careful
And watch how you treat every living soul
My eyes can't look at you any other way,
Any other way, any other way
When eyes can't look at you any other way,
Any other way, any other way

We need a Portland band to do a Arvydas Sabonis song! Those Seattle turds need to know about the genius that is Sabas!
