TV Ellen Degeneres’ Puppy Breakdown!

Posted by Wm. Steven Humphrey on Tue, Oct 16 at 3:27 PM

So while Portland is being reduced to ashes by dirty bomb carrying terrorists, daytime talk show host ELLEN DEGENERES has more “important” things on her mind: primarily the fact that she’s BETRAYED a helpless puppy and possibly caused its inadvertent death. Watch as Ellen explains her predicament, and then suffers a sobbing mental break down on national TV. Yeah, whatever. Tell that to the puppy, Ellen.

Comments

I love Ellen Degeneres and I think she's really funny and always puts me in a good mood.. but even though this was such an intense feeling for her about this dog issue, I think it was not appropriate to express that level of emotion in the middle of a show, I've seen actresses who's mother died minutes before a major performance, and she completely stayed in character and continued with the show. I'm sorry but Ellen shouldn't have displayed that level of emotion in the middle of a show.

How unfortunate for that beautiful little puppy! I'm not sure where Ellen rescued him from, but I am certain, that the home with the little girls is by far, a much better place for that cute little puppy, than any rescue shelter! Ellen's heart was in the Right place! That cute little puppy had a home! There are over a million or more other pets that are discarded and thrown out on freeways, neglected, starved, beaten, and yes, sometimes even murdered!
I understand that Ellen signed that agreement, but my God! Give that puppy back to those girls!

Ellen has a talk show... where she talks about general crap, current events and her own life. It's not like she was doing a stage production and had a character to stay in.

Either way who cares, TV sucks. Blame it on the scurge known as reality television.

doesn't the blow have sort-of breakdown-ish things, too?

I see no problem with the decision Ellen made conscerning her puppy. There is no doubt in my mind that the puppy had every need met. She is a standup woman, with a wonderful heart. You self-righteous chatters need to find a purpose other than to pick-apart someone else' life. I SAY, "GIVE THE PUPPY BACK!"... (who is to say that the adoption agency is a better judge of character than a friend of a friend)... I watch channel 43 animal spca, they give more respect to abusive/neglecting pet owners than Ellen has received conscerning Iggy.

I blame Oprah.

It's her show, she can talk about whatever she wants. I hope everything goes well with the situation. And I REALLY respect the fact that she didn't try to play it off as "everything is okay", because we all complain about how fake telivision is, so why is everyone being so lame about this? She was trying to be real, and tell us how she really felt.

And, Filipe Ferro, To your comment about "I've seen actresses who's mother died minutes before a major performance, and she completely stayed in character and continued with the show."...

Um, okay. That's cool I guess. But so what? So those actors were obsessed enough to act a character after their parent died. Honestly. I think there is something wrong with that, just covering up all your emotions like that.

But, if they wanted to do that, whatever. Ellen, did not want to keep her emotions in. Thats the way she went about it. Leave it at that.

I APPRECIATE Ellen's concern over this dog...however, the little girl in the video was not genuine and was only putting on a show that she misses the dog!!! I mean come on, Ellen, you are a millionaire, buy the little girl another dog! Move on with our lives! I mean seriously, I lost my 6 year old son 4 years ago! There is more trials in tribulation in the world besides this situation!

Wow, I didn't realize that so many of our readers were Ellen fans.

Scott, who isn't an Ellen fan?

I hope this puppy is returned to the little girls. This is not right, to return the puppy back to a shelter when there is someone who already loves Iggy. With all the terrible and awful things going on in this world, it would be nice to hear about some good things in life, like love and compassion. My heart goes out to you Ellen, and may God help these people, put Iggy back in the arms of these little girls.

Ellen has every right for acting the way she did...that animal adoption agency is way out of line...they need to return the damn puppy to the family that they took it from!!!

God all the self absorbed lown down losers. Ellen can cry as much as she wants, she is a wonderful person. She has such a kind heart she took the time to say sorry. oh and Filipe Ferro no one cares one bit about your little friend that went on to tv and held herself together. Obviously you don't know what its like to love something so much and have it get taken away.

The temporary home of 259,681 adoptable pets from 11,149 adoption groups. (There use to be website)
This is very very sad. It shows that in this day and age, people don't care about humanity.
what was the problem with the organization sending someone to see what the environment and conditions of the puppy are before dragging a puppy away from any home. It may have taken then 15 minutes to knock on the door and ask to see the puppy and family environment, instead of ruining the name of their organization. what did they plan on doing? returning this puppy back to the cage at their facility where they have 259,681 adoptable pets from 11,149 adoption groups. This sounds like hoarding animals to me. They need to do the right thing. If the new home is appropriate, I say return the puppy to the family and move on. learn from your stupidity.

I AM VERY SAD FOR ELLEN AND WHO DON'T MAKE MISTAKES PLEASEEEE...."GIVE THE PUPPY BACK" I AM PET LOVER, I HAVE A FEMALE DOG, NOW SHE IS SICK WITH SEIZURES BECAUSE WE ARE NOT PERFECT GIVEN THEM ANY KIND OF FOOD, WE CAN'T CONTROL SOMETIMES OUR FEELINGS AND WE MAKE MISTAKES GIVEN CAKES OR CANDYS, THOSE THINGS CAN DAMAGES VERY BAD YOUR PET, SO SHE IS LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE, SHE CAN CRY AND BE SORRY DON'T YOU HAVE HUMANITY?......THE REAL PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD IS PEOPLE WHO REALLY LOVE ANIMALS.
I WILL PRAY FOR YOU ELLEN, I KNOW YOU GOING TO HAVE YOUR PUPPY BACK.

LILY
FROM LODI, NEW JERSEY

I'm 100% with Ellen on this situation. For all of you people who are saying "There is more trials in tribulation in the world besides this situation!" "I think it was not appropriate to express that level of emotion in the middle of a show"
Who gives a crap? Ellen has a very amorous heart and has every right to say this, even if it is over national television! The adoption agency is being way out of line with this dilemma. She took a puppy from a rescue agency to take into her home, and felt she was an improper owner and she knew someone who could provide it with a much more contented life. All of you people think she's being ridiculous because of the fact she isn't crying over some death, get real. Not one thing she handled with this dog was careless. She felt strongly about the situation. What an outrageous agency.

isn't it interesing how many people are ready to bash someone else for their feelings or comments, Ellen has a fricken talk show let her talk and that is what she did? right she talked and expressed her views, perhaps the coments that are completely negative on this sight, well maybe some of your energy could be used elswhere to create something positive but yah your right its so much easier to critisize and hate than stand up and stand for something positive and go against the norm of tearing down people we want to see people suceed and then when they do there is always someone ready to tear them down. give the puppy back!

I think Ellen did the right thing and someone at the shelter needs to have a little common sense about this. It's refreshing, however, that no one has found a way to blame President Bush but then there's another day, maybe there is still someone who can pin this on him.

It's hard to believe reading some of these comments, that people can be sooo heartless, and cruel. All Ellen is guilty of is being human. The only difference is that she has been given the chance to express her humanity, and opinion on Television. Like the internet just another way for us to be different, and objective. So for those of you that are jealous that she not you has this ability, it's just lucky you have a place like this to share your opinions too.
Be kind, karma is a wonderful thing. And in response to post ONE Ferra. She is not an actress acting on a t.v. show, she a real person showcasing her talents, and the talents of her guests.
I really have to wonder about an actress whos mother died just before she went on whatever, and she didn't shed a tear. Sounds to me like she spends to much time acting, and not enough time in the real world.
Some things to think about.......

I feel that the puppy should be given back to the girls. Ellen did a very nice thing by given the dog away. But our family were we live did adopt a really cute 2year old dog and brought the dog home. After a few days we just could not take care of him. So we had to take him back to the human society, the contract we signed said this. So Ellen signed the same contract and should have taken the puppy back. Then told the mother of the girls to adopt the puppy, it dosen't seem right, but that is the law of the human society. That is how they would have gotten paid twice for the same dog. Dosen't seem right does it.

Yes, it's her show, let her do whatever she wants. Even though it's true, raw emotion, it's also a publicity stunt IN THAT a lot of people will pay attention to this little breakdown and eventually force the adoption agency to go against their policy and give the pup back to the girls and their family.

That having been said, while it's sad that this happened to what may be a very nice, compassionate family, the agency also has its rules and regulations to follow. If you want to look at it as "Ellen adopted the dog fair and square, he is hers to do whatever she pleases with him," that's fine, but she DID sign a paper saying if she sees herself as an unfit puppy-parent, she must return the dog. Surely you all can understand why that is.

I hope the family does get the puppy back. They shouldn't be punished because Ellen made a mistake - but that's just it: she made a mistake. Mistakes happen, we're humans. She in no way endangered the puppy's life by doing what she did and she too is being punished. I honestly believe if this organization wants to remain reputable, they will let the family have the pup, BUT make the family officially adopt him so if, say, something happens and the pup passes hands again to someone who might neglect him, he can be removed from a potentially hazardous situation.

What's ironic is that all the parties involved were doing what they felt was in the pup's best interest and look how badly it backfired on everyone.

Fame and Hollywood have ruined many! Their heads inflate soo much they forget who they were and where they came from. Some shave their heads, some become drug addicts and drunks, etc. Praise God there are a few out there who remember who they are, like Ellen. She's real dammit! She's like you and me. She not an actress; she doesn't perform what the director tells her to. She's a wonderful and compassionate human being who chose not to hide her feelings for the assholes who thrive on trying to make others look bad. Its "Her Show and She Can Cry if She Wants To"! Ellen is real, compassionate, and true to herself! I truly admire and respect a person who tries to correct their mistake. I pray things will work out in the best interest of Iggy. And to Ellen, I support you, I love you, and I respect and admire you for who you are!

I understand why the rescue organization has those rules, but they should just make sure the family that had the puppy are fit "puppy parents" and let them have the puppy bag if they are. I'm pretty sure Ellen wouldn't give a puppy or any animal for that matter to someone she didn't think could take care of it. How sad :(

GIVE THE PUPPY BACK NOW!

I can't believe this Mutts place took the dog back to put in a cage in their shelter someplace when he was happy in his new home with two loving little girls who played with him and took care of him. Isn't this the whole goal?? To find loving homes for the dogs?? It's not like Ellen tossed the dog out the door. She took the time to find a good home for the dog. That's the right thing to do. It sounds to me like Mutts wants more money. I think they took the dog back so they could get another adoption fee out of him. Greed. Plain and simple. They are not interested in the pets best interests, just their pocketbooks. How dissappointing. I hope they have the decency to return the dog to his new owners without making them pay for the adoption and perhaps they should take another look at this contract they make people sign. Who's it really benefitting after all??

For all those saying Ellen was not right to breakdown in the middle of the show, or "Who gives a crap" there are more important things to talk about... It is her show she can say what she wants! And if you don't give a crap then why are you watching it and taking the time to comment about it???

Call me confused, but if the puppy is still alive in a shelter, can't the family just go there and adopt it? WTF.

Ellen's not in the wrong here. She did her best to keep the dog out of the rescue shelter, which is what I thought was the ultimate goal for those sort of places. I feel so bad for her and the family who had the dog taken.

Sometimes rules should be bent a bit. And not just because Ellen's a celebrity, but because she really did have everyone's best interests in mind.

I was so sorry to hear Ellen so hurt....
I know about these 5 font lines at the bottom of a contract, However the point is to find a fine family to adopt the dog....that goal was reached.....so Give the
Dog Back to the Girls!!!!! This could be one less dog put down by euthinasia....you have people that love that dog, want that dog, what more would you Humane Society want.
Ooops did I say "Humane Society?

I'm sorry you lost your son Emma, but that doesn't mean a person can't feel the same way about an animal. You may not deeply care for animals (and this goes out to anyone who is trashing Ellen), but other people do. Animals have the ability to bond with people, they have feelings, they are not disposable as many people view them.

"I mean come on, Ellen, you are a millionaire, buy the little girl another dog! Move on with our lives!"

Another dog is not going to replace the one that was lost. Money is not the issue. It's principles and it's personal lives.

And just because some hardships may seem worse than others, it doesn't mean that the pain felt is any different. You can't tell a person how to feel, they are going to feel it regardless.

I have never cared for Ellen, or anything she has been involved in. But, when I read the headlines all over the place, I had to take a look. Most headlines start by stating she is in the doghouse.

After doing some googling, and research, I feel Ellen may of over played her hand, but she did bring attention to some morons who seem to think they know more about where or who should have Pets? This is what drives me crazy about all of the libs that have sooo much power in this greatest country on the planet! They should be looked into by state agency! No matter what kind of contract they MAKE you sign, they should be under a microscope. And, if they receive ANY taxpayers monies, and found to be doing anything questionable should be brought in front a a sitting grand jury, and see where it leads.

These people are totally nuts! and good for Ellen for bring attention to it. The Headlines should be something like: Pet's right group shoots own foot!

Now, I just wonder if dirty harry reid, or nacy pisskokie are board members? Any bets?

jh

I live in Oklahoma where our stray pets have a horrific time finding a new home. I live near a park where people from all over the city dump their unwanted animals. I have taken in numerous cats (I call them walk-ins) and numerous dogs (adopted from numerous agencies). I have signed the same contracts that Ellen signed. As long as the animal is in a wonderful environment these agencies do not care what you do. My sister adopted a chihuahua and as always, the dog always, always, always falls in love with my husband. So Spike (abuse name Spam) lives with my husband and I and has a Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton type relationship with our Papillon. No booze involved though. Tulsa has people who travel to Oklahoma to steal dogs (Dealing Dogs the documentary, anyone?) to sell for animal research or for dog fighting purposes. My Vet told me the police tell him stories of watching people chase dogs or cats in the middle of the night and when asked what they are doing - they don't have an answer. The police have to run these people off. This is a terrible problem in Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas - the worst of the worst. I truly believe that this group in the Los Angeles area is attention seeking and are also perhaps hoarding.

Anyway, sorry for the long comment. Reading about this is too dysfunctional.

Can you imagine how many comments there would be if Chris Crocker wanted to adopt this puppy?

Oh, I see. Blogtown is the first Google result for "Ellen Degeneres puppy."

Want to see what Ellen looks like without all the makeup?

Ok...I think its great that Ellen has no problem showing her emotions in front of millions of people like that...There are so many people out there who have no heart whatsoever and right there shows you how loving and caring she is...I think THAT should make that no good rescue shelter let the family keep the puppy!! That was no "mental breakdown"..Give me a break!! She was just upset..I would of been the same way if i felt like i did something really wrong or if something was my fault..GIVE THE PUPPY BACK TO THAT FAMILY!!

Personally, i think it was a wonderful thing that Ellen found a new and LOVING home for the puppy-- sure beats a tiny cage and hundreds of other barking dogs and 20mins a day of attention.. nothing against the rescue agency but there is NO way that they can give this pup the love it needs and deserves.. How cold and heartless to take a dog from children .. Especially since they were apparently only loving it !! . Since when was love and caring abusive .. what is this world coming too. Ellen... You are a doll and do so much for so many.. Kudos to you for finding Iggy a loving family.. and Stick this agency on the 'WTF' list for not seeing humanity at its finest !

People sign contracts with Ellen all the time. I guess now it's okay if they just ignore what the contract reads and do whatever they want to.

Then when there's a problem they can just cry on national tv and people will rush to comfort them.

It's insane that a rescue group would take a dog away from a wonderful loving home! They should've just checked the family out and had them fill out the adoption paperwork - there is no reason to "punish" them by taking the dog. It's not like Ellen gave the dog to a puppy mill or Michael Vick! It was an honest mistake - this was a wonderful family for the dog, and the Rescue Group needs to realize that! There are exceptions to every rule.

Someone wrote: "This is not right, to return the puppy back to a shelter when there is someone who already loves Iggy."

OKAY FOLKS.... first of all don't write something if you DON'T know what you are talking about! This was NOT A SHELTER! A rescue group consists of caring, loving people who take dogs in from SHELTERS, backyard breeders and abused situations! These people take care of these animals in THEIR OWN HOMES. They are not locked up in cages like a shelter!

Now, what Ellen did, was sweet and she thought it was a good thing. But unfortunately, MOST PEOPLE who adopt from a RESCUE don't fully read their contracts. They ALL specifically state that if for ANY reason you can not care for the dog you MUST return him/her to the RESCUE. Applicants for rescue dogs are screened, home visits are done to ensure not only a good fit, but that the applicant is not a hoarder or a backyard breeder, etc. Please understand their reasons for doing this. Ellen's hairdresser can apply with the rescue to adopt Izzy just like anyone else can.

lesbo

I have always been a big Ellen fan, and now i am even more so. We all have our moments. Luckily most of us aren't in the public eye when we have them. Ellen had a moment. She vented to all. I say "You go girl!". Maybe the public appeal will do some good with the rescue agency.

Oh my GOD people people get a life. Ellen is using her show as a platform to get what she wants. If she was not a millionaire and on television we would not know or care. There are so many other things more important that a dog, and she signed a contract, is it ok that she disregarded a contract because she is Ellen, because she has money? A contract is a contract, she signed it, she should have known better.

So we have another psuedo celebrity bawling their eyes out over an animal on national television.

Where are the tears for the millions of children (human children) currently in abusive homes, being raised by drug addicts, or held captive by a social service agency that is more focused on increasing it's yearly budget than it is on finding a safe and supportive family for the children it is required to help.

We as a nation have completely lost all aspects of reality. Thanks to you Ellen, and to all of you who value pets more than you value our youth, we are officially circling the drain of failed societies.

I thought it was one of the funniest damn things I have seen. I had to watch it 3 times to get through it all because I couldn't stop laughing. I kept waiting for her to say, "Gotcha, A Dog that's rich" but she held it together. Quite a phenomenal actress. The part where she started wailing, "IT'S MY FAULT! OHHH GOD, ITS MY FAULT! TAKE ME INSTEAD!" You just can't buy humor like that. The responsible thing to do would have been to do what everyone does when they have a dog they don't want, take it out in the woods and drop it off, duh! They are descended from wolves, they will be alright. Take the $3000 and buy the kids a swingset, or better yet just tell them to "Walk it off". Time to man up. Didn't you ever see Old Yeller?

CNN just posted the true story minutes ago!!!

Rosie was house-sitting for Ellen while writing her life-story and the puppy knocked over a bowl of bbq sauce and Rosie ate the poor puppy thinking it was a really big hamburger.

It's a tragic tale of two friends and I hope all of you can take a moment to pray for them both.

What the absolute FUCK is happening, here?

I am not a big Ellen Degeneres fan, but I am behind her on this. She couldn't keep the dog, but found a kind loving family who could. And one that she was close to and I am sure she could have kept track of how the dog was doing. For the Animal shelter to threaten going to the media about this, who did they think was going to benefit more? What idiots!!Ellen has you beat hands down.Give the dog back.

Leave the woman alone, this is America and she can say whatever she wants!

Ellen = Michael Vick with makeup.

To Whatever...since you are claiming nobody knows what they are talking about,I assume you personally know this establishment of animal husbandry to be telling people that it is a rescue group and not a shelter???

matt: see comment 35.

Have people forgotten that Ellen signed a CONTRACT, promising to return the dog to the rescue organization if she could not keep it? She may have had good intentions, but she did not honor the SIGNED CONTRACT - these things are in place for a reason. Until you have done work for a rescue organization, screening homes, checking references, etc....but more importantly, until you have prepared a dog for a good home, you may not understand the importance of these contracts.

What is going on people...We are talking about a puppy here who was given a great home environment to people who obviously loved the dog.

GIVE THE DOG BACK TO THE GOOD LOVING HOME!!!

How often to you get that choice.

This whole contract thing is BS.We have saved animals from these rescue groups or shelters which ever it may be,that were treated far worse than when we brought them home.We have had to take these animals to the vet upon getting them from these places. We have a vet who is on call for us...seriously.Most of these places are overcrowded with animals and understaffed, leaving animals to lie in their own feces and urine. If this group felt Ellen was doing something so wrong and they were so right, then why are they hiding and dropping their links on websites.Of course it is going to come back negative on them.Ellen found a loving home for the dog. There should never have been a contract in the first place. She wasn't purchasing a car or home for crying out loud.

Brett----as I stated above:
Until you have done work for a rescue organization, screening homes, checking references, etc....but more importantly, until you have prepared a dog for a good home, you may not understand the importance of these contracts.

Give Snowball to Ellen as a consolation prize. Thanks for playing.

Yes, I do feel bad for Ellen, BUT she was in breach of a contract. I love it how people are amazed when something happens and the contract backfires in their face. Did you not read the contract before you signed it? And do you really feel above the law? I know you thought you were in the best interest of the dog but when you signed the contract, you stated if you couldn't keep the dog, you would give it back.

Thank you, Krystle, for stating that!

Sue....I understand what you said, but that isn't always the case as my family has found out.I can show you a pile of vet bills that shows not all of these places prepare or take good care of these animals.Wouldn't part of preparing an animal for adoption be to make sure it is in good health?I work with animals daily.Maybe I don't work at a rescue league or shelter, but we have 3 dogs,6 cats, 7 donkeys, 2 chickens and a pigmy goat who are all in good health.AND only one of the cats was brought into the house as a previous pet of someone. The rest were either strays, dropped or farrels we raised from kittens. The dogs,by the way, were brought in from a "rescue league" to save them from the hell in which they were living there.

It's always the same stuff.

1)He/she can say whatever he/she wants.

Roger that. Nobody said she couldn't say it, just that saying it and crying on national TV like a buffon was dumb(and funny). She could go on TV and say the sky is purple and M & M s grow on trees. Nobody is going to stop her. It's still a stupid thing to do though, and reasonable people who don't make all their decisions based on feelings will rightfully ridicule her incesantly.

2) You can't say anything unless you've walked a mile in her shoes.

Yeah, unless you've personally experienced something first hand, you cannot use any sort of logic or reasoning and apply it to the situation. One might say, "Dang, that dude just got his arm sawed off, sure looks like it hurts, but hey I've never gotten my arm sawed off so I can't judge if it hurts or not." Get a chainsaw.

3)If the shelter wasn't guilty why did they take down all their contact info?

Yeah, that's logical. I bet it's probably b/c hysterical, crazy people were calling them and demanding they do something. Nah, probably not, more likely it's because they're jackbooted thugs who only care about torturing animals and hate kids (and b/c Bush ordered them too, he hates dogs you know).

Personally, I would have just eaten the dog. I hear it's a delicacy in some parts of the world, and I have no way to judge unless I experience it for myself.

Also,do you think with the emotion Ellen diplayed over this subject that she felt in any way that this home was going to be an abusive home in any way shape or form??? If I were her, I would take my millions and buy that rescue organization out and clean house.Financial institutions go through extensive background checks and references and so forth and still end up making bad loans.Do you feel animal rescue organizations do any better of a job than them? Security breaches happen all of the time due to false information...what makes an animal rescue orgaizations check proceedure any better than anyone elses?
Give the dog back.

I have no idea who, if anyone, will really read this, but I had to say it.

Ellen needs to get her priorities straight. She should not have used her nationally televised show to do harm to a small animal rescue organization. The fact that she is a celebrity gives her no right to ignore written contracts that are put in place to protect adoptive animals. The truth remains that since she foisted the dog off onto a "friend" to take care of, she put that dog at risk of being put back onto the street. More than a million dogs and cats a year are adopted and then for whatever reason, the owners decide they can't take care of the animals, and they wind up back in shelters, or worse, euthanized. Not to mention the fact that many shelter dogs simply cannot be put into homes with children (due to past abuse), and the adoption group needs to be made aware of such a situation to advise on the safety of the dog and the family. Bottom line – Ellen is WRONG and needs to face the reality that her tears and fame put her in the same category as any other person who takes on the responsibility of caring for an abandoned animal and then does even more harm by continuing the abuse and neglect. A national apology should be issued by her to the individual rescue group, and ALL rescue groups for tainting the work that they do to protect animals.

Yet another classic.

1)The good ole collective apology

I believe that (fill in the blank) should apologize to (fill in the blank with random category we neatly divide everyone into i.e. women, minorities, nationality, race,). Apologies are by their very nature interpersonal phenemenon. What is with all the calls for group apologies? Can we honestly say that all animal workers have been injured by this and their reputation will be restored by a single act of contrition? Most shelter workers probably haven't heard about it or if they have probably don't care. Next thing you know, there will be calls for counseling or God forbid, reparations.

All the power and connections Ellen has on national t.v, she uses it for a puppy. Not for our boarders being crossed by illegal aliens or possible terrorist, the political corruption in our school system with gays and lesbians, or about God. No she uses her strenght and determination on a puppy. Priorities, yes where are they? Anyone such as myself would give anything to have the oppertunity to speak in front of millions of people to be heard. Not her, It's nice to see her using what has been giving to her in a possitive way. It's people like you destroying this beautiful nation.

Cry me a river, Ellen, the poor woman didn't get her way. Buy the girls another dog and learn your lesson, just because you are rich you can't always have your ways. When was the last time you were in an orphanage or in an African hospice where children suffer and die every day. Shame on you!!!

Thank you. Good day.

If you want to support Ellen in a peaceful way, go here(and spread the word!):

Boriana you don't know what you're talking about! Ellen DeGeneres hosted Idol Gives Back this year which raised $60 million for charities including African charity Save the Children. Ellen donated $100,000 herself during this event. She has generously supported many other causes as well including Red Cross, Second Harvest, & One Campaign (fights AIDS)
Do some research before you insult someone who doesn't deserve it!

Wow!! This is what Ellen is so upset about?? There are people who go hungry and are losing their homes in the sub prime disaster and we are all talking about a puppy?? It isn't being abused...it just has to move...it's like a weird high school drama unfolding. I can see that it is not a great situation but move on...

this is YET ANOTHER celebrity trying to push their weight around. She needs to learn her lesson and also LEARN HOW TO FOLLOW THE RULES!

She shouldn't be allowed to hand-off the puppy to another family like it were a mere football. A puppy is not merely another trendy hollywood fashion accessory, nor is it a string of certifiably HOTT relationships with up-and-coming lesbian starlets. Get real, Ellen!

Call the authorities, chain that puppy to Ellen's neck and everyone wins! (Except the little girl, who didn't deserve the puppy in the first place because she's almost totally unable to generate publicity for the plight of unloved animals, unlike that contemptible Ellen D. Generes.)

ps EMOTIONAL CRUELTY!

I don't have time to read 74 comments so I don't know if someone up there has mentioned this BUT The most appalling thing (to me) to come out of this video is that Ellen has a hair stylist. who would have guessed?

Well, and here I thought that the only irrational hysterics I'd hear in this section belonged to the 'give back the puppy' sector. Then Anthony Perry entered the arena!

His first sentence, I suspect, was a headline from today's paper, minus the colon that would be necessary before the word 'she'. Next, a plea for our national tenants is heard, with special attention paid to extraterrestrials who have failed to pay heed to our laws, and one person who may or may not be (a) terrorist.

Then, we are treated to an eloquent description of the systemic failure of our school system, followed by a non sequitur regarding Da Queers. And something about God. This is to show that Anthony is a Serious Guy/Possible Christians.

Depending on what 'strenght' is, I think he's accusing Ellen of beastiality in the following sentence. After this, an opportunity is provided to rearrange a sentence.

Just gotta quote this one verbatim: "Anyone such as myself would give anything to have the oppertunity to speak in front of millions of people to be heard." Yes Anthony; imagine the effect that you would have, were you allowed to speak -just as you have right here- to millions. I think then that all those dam snobs would finally tell you you smarter than they.

"Not her, It's nice to see her using what has been giving to her in a possitive way." I'm suspecting that this is Li'l Anthony's way of portraying The Sarcasm There, which is something he has heard about. I know that home schooling has its own protocols, but why is constructing a decent sentence suddenly Against God?

A rare compliment is offered in the final sentence, in which Mssr. Perry concedes that people enjoy Ms. DeGeneres destroying (this) beautiful country.

Wow. Good thing that we're debating something important, huh?

I'm not an Ellen fan. However, this is a very simple scenario.
It's her damn show, she gets to talk about whatever the hell she feels like. She feels like crap about the dog and she shared that with her audience, just as she could have been sharing about her new bathroom towels.

So she got emotional. Do you have a problem with that? It's Ellen. It's her show about random things. Quit whining. I for one I'm happy she shared, at least it gets her audience thinking about something other than bathroom towels for 5 mins.

Hey, don't knock bathroom towels… they're great for cleaning up puppy blood.

Angela, that's what most celebrities do - give money, which they have plenty and helps the charities, but when was the last time according to your research that Ellen spent time with the children themselves like Angelina Jolie does?

How much can a person Apologise for? Ellen actually cryed on National Television. Any Compation here? She was good enough to have a dog but not good enough to find it a good home? I don't get it? Ellen is always happy and when she is sad her fans are too. She was pleading. I can't emagine what those small girls are going through. The same thing keeps running through my head, If you love something set it free and if it comes back it's yours. If it doesn't it was never ment to be. We all just hate the fact that what we all really want is a happy ending. Think positive, as hard as this is it's all just a learning experience for all of us. You still teach the world how you handle this the correct way. Other dogs need to be rescued. I think from this Iggy will get a good home and be ok. As for everyone else it will take some time to heal from this. TIME! Your show is awsome keep it up, Stay real! When your fans see you upset, you know now how they defend you. Good and Bad. Just remember you are awsome and you have a good heart and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Who's speaking for the dog here? I heard Ellen talking about how much money she spent on the dog, and I wondered why she even brought that up. The big problem seems to be that the girls are upset, and Ellen is embarrassed because she created the whole situation by not paying any attention to the contract she was signing and not honoring that agreement. Most dog rescuers are devoted to every dog they save and have an emotional as well as financial and time investment in them. They want to make sure the animals are going to to be SAFE and properly cared for, not just that they're going to be loved by kids who may or may not know how to care for the dog properly. Dog rescuers are experts in these matters, few others make the dog's welfare their highest priority. Contractual agreements ARE important; keeping your word IS important; denigrating someone because they don't want to bail you out of an embarrassing situation that YOU created is immature. Who's speaking for the dog's best interests?

Rescue groups are a joke!!! They LACK COMMON SENSE!!! Give the damn dog back A-holes

If Ellen truly wanted to take responsibility, she should have been the one to go to the girls to retrieve the dog, thereby upholding her end of the contract that she signed of her own free will and bearing the brunt of the distraught on these innocent bystanders. She could have used her money to hire a lawyer and have a deal (accompanied by a large check) brokered with the rescue agency which placed the puppy with the girls with oversight. I am surprised she chose to use emotionality rather than rationality and escalate the problem rather than solve it.

I totally support the shelter!!! Just because Ellen is a celebrity doesn't mean she can break the rules. You people reckon you don't think what the shelter did was right - well, I don't think it's right that the shelter has now had to close it's doors and the owner's kids have gotten death threats, all because Ellen had to go and have a boo hoo on TV. All you people who say you are dog lovers, has it occurred to you that because of Ellen the shelter now can't help ANY animals???

Okay so she did something wrong, atleast she stood up and took responsability for it, not only did she not lie when they asked how was the puppy doing, but she actually admitted on national tv that she was wrong...and no matter who you are...it does show character.

we do not live in a black and white world, there is grey area,..there are exeptions. And yes she brokedown on national tv! so what? so she is rich and famous, does that mean she can't feel or get emotional. and yes there was more rational ways to deal with this, but usually before rationality kicks in, your emotions kicks in first.

why is her tears/emotions make us so scared? don't we all cry once in awhile, alone or not alone...don't we?

it is still sad though that the puppy has to go back to a shelter...
but the shelter followed its procedure, that is good and its necessary. Nevertheless the puppy is still in need of a home, so hopefully the shelter will do some more research to see if this family is indeed a good family for the dog and that it will be returned if its so.

the constant change of enviroment is certainly not good for the puppy.

Listen to you all, Either bagging Ellen for breaking down on TV or for causing Death Threats to the shelter. Or the other people who are all cutsy and wanting the dog to be given back.

Especially those who say it was unprofessional for her to breakdown on national TV. EXCUSE ME? ARE YOU A WORLD-CLASS COMEDIAN? She is a comedian not an actress, and by this show of compassion she Is obviously human, not some cookie-cutter bimbo actress that can go through anything for her work. Ellen was trying to use her show to help those two little girls. If you got so attached to something and had it taken away from you because of some stupid regulation how would you feel?

That didn't even make sense, WHY did they take it away, they could've just assessed the family, made sure the dog was indeed in good hands and transferred the ownership to them.

AND HEAR ME OUT, So they got Death threats, that's not ellen's fault at all! And as a bit of insider news, the dog actually has been given to a different family.

For the love of god, show some compassion, show some warmth, really.

Hell yes I have a lot to say. See 31.
Good point (:

All you heartless people, YES she signed a contract, YES she breached it, but this is not about stiff-upper lipped societies where everything MUST go by the book, this is about the love of a little dog named iggy. If Ellen sees that this is important, then she should be able to voice it on HER OWN SHOW. When you losers get your own show you can bag out ellen as much as you like until you get the sack like Rosie O'donnel. ThankYOU mr. Trump.

The petition to give Iggy back to the owners has reached 11 and a half thousand at last check. Maybe some of you don't care, but 11,500 people do atleast. If not more in days to come.

Why don't you think that the death threats are not Ellen's fault? If she had handled this like most adults, privately, then the death threats would not have happened. Look at Michael Vick, he is getting more time for killing dogs than he would have for killing a person. America has low tolerance for anything having to do with animals, humans ok, animals no. When you get a dog from an animal rescue, key word rescue, especially a puppy or small dog, they specify no children in some cases due to the background of the dog, abuse etc, and even some shelters do not recommend small dogs with children due the the personality of the dog.We do not know what the background of the dog, the only thing is known is that Ellen did not read her contract, cried on the television for the dog to be returned, and now people want to hurt the woman that retrieved the dog, because Ellen was crying and there is a little girl involved. I think that people need to get their priorities straight, and somewhow threatening the life of a person over something so miniscule is just plain asinine.

I couldn't believe I was watching it. Is she for real? Was it a joke to show us all how easy it is for millionaire celebrities to get so caught up in their own petty, trivial, banal existences that they actually start to believe it is important to anybody outside of their own sycophantic entourage? If so, mission accomplished El!

Give Ellen a break.
She is a real person with real emotion.
Why should she be vilified for having feelings about something and displaying those feelings?
She is an actor supposed to be in a part?
That is the lamest thing I have ever heard.
I don't know her...but I feel her pain.

Let's not forget that Ellen is the one who screwed up here. I think SHE should be forced to live in a rescue shelter. (If you disagree with me, your opinion is worthless.)

Poor girl ... Have you seen her telling how much she misses the dog in this TMZ video? (http://www.weshow.com/us/p/19802/ellen_degeneres_drama)
In this video Ellen explains why she decided to tell the drama is her program. Although I've found Ellen's attitude ridiculous, I just don't understand why not to let the girl stay with the dog.

maybe the shelter is assessing the new family as potential adopters. just becuase the animal was pulled, doesn't mean that the family can't adopt it. there is a reason why shelters have this kind of proceedure. see the following from www.petfinder.com

Pet Return Policies
Many shelters and rescue groups insist, through their adoption agreements, that if a pet cannot stay with his adoptive family, the adopters must return him to the group. Why do they do this?

Between 500,000 and 1 million pets adopted from shelters and rescue groups find themselves homeless and in the shelter once again.

One foster mom said it best, "I found the dog on the street, starving. I nursed her back to health. She slept in my bed. I sang her back to sleep when she had nightmares when she first came to me. Then I adopted her to a wonderful family. A year later, I got a call from animal control because she was at the shelter and she was going to be euthanized. The family had gotten divorced and she ended up on death row!"

This too-common experience leads rescue groups and shelter to put strict policies in place governing what happens if the adoption doesn't work out. In effect, the rescue group and shelters are promising to always be there as a safety net for the pets. This can be very comforting to adopters.

Finding a New Home for Your Pet
Some pet parents, who have the best intentions for their pets, feel that they can do a better job of finding a new home for their beloved pet than a shelter or rescue group. Their rationale is that they know their pet best, they can keep it in their home until the perfect new home is found, and they can help ease the transition for the pet. Often times, this is a natural transition - a family member, trusted friend, or a colleague gets to know the pet, falls in love, and the ownership of the pet is unofficially transferred to them.

This is a controversial point of view, even amongst shelters and rescue groups who may feel that they have more experience identifying pitfalls and risk factors when identifying new families. Research, however, suggests that there is no difference in the success rates of the adoptions between organizations that screen heavily versus those that have more open adoption policies.

It also bears noting that shelters and rescue groups, understandably, want to keep in contact with new families to be able to lend their support and continue to get updates about the pets they cared for. So we have two groups, the shelter and the pet parents, who both want what is best for the pet, but who may have very different points of view. The silver lining is that everyone really wants the best home possible for the pet. If we could ensure that same future for all the pets available on Petfinder.com, our job would be accomplished.

1) Ellen usually takes the high road. I was hoping - and still am hoping - she would/will say "The agency is doing good work, and I agree they have the right - even the responsibility - to do what they think is right. They have those rules to avoid hurting people and dogs both. I am disappointed they have not seen fit to leave the dog in the home I chose for it - and I hope they will eventually - but I will support their work regardless of what they decide in this instance.

2) The agency has missed a chance to take the high road also. I would like for her to say "We have strict rules about pet adoption to avoid hurting people or dogs. We resist making any exception to those rules, because when you make exceptions the rules can go out the window - anyone with children knows this. However, in this case, my stubbornness - and my sensitivity to celebrities who think they should always be an exception to the rules - has defeated the good intentions those rules were established to enforce. Upon further consideration, we have determined this is a good home for Iggy (assuming it is - is it?), and if the new owners continue to meet our check up standards Iggy's home will be a happy one.
3) We love to choose sides, but I think we should think about ways for everyone to "win," whenever that is realistic. This is a real life example of everyone - so far - losing!
4) Final thought - "Rescuing" animals isn't always best for animals. Avoiding unwanted animals is best - humane destruction is a better solution than "personalizing" all animals and treating them as if we owe all of them a happy life.

Boo-hoo, Ellen is a poor little rich girl.
Paris acts better than that.
Paris needs to be on Ellen's next show and Ellen needs to go on Pari's show.
Could you see Ellen doing half the stuff Paris has to do on her show?

Paris is more of a man than Ellen has been or will ever be.
