George Jones, the man with the greatest nickname in country music (“The Possum”), and a onetime neighbor of our very own Chas Bowie (also nicknamed “The Possum,” coincidentally), scurries through Portland tonight.
Jones’ rich voice is a staple of country music’s glory days, long before the genre became a vehicle to shill, well, vehicles (Ford trucks and NASCAR are two that come to mind) and before Music Row wasn’t breeding ground for beefcake crooners in designer cowboy garb.
Here’s Jones signing “She Thinks I Still Care,” and sporting a perfectly symmetrical flat top.
George Jones performs at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall tonight, and if you are ever in the city of Enterprise, Alabama, be sure to swing on by his restaurant, Possum Holler.
I thought Chas was know as "the Otter"
My favorite George Jones song ever.
