Election 2008 Politics and Coffee

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Tue, Oct 16 at 6:00 PM

Amanda Fritz looks like she’s pulling another first when it comes to Portland Public Financing. In the 2006 election, she was the first candidate to qualify for public funds. This year, in her bid for Sam Adams’ city commissioner seat, it looks like she’s the first to plant herself at Portland coffeeshops, so supporters can “show up, chat, and consider whether to give my campaign $5.” Or, as she’s also calling it, “Meet, Greet, Give-and-get-receipt” events.

Here’s where to find her this weekend:

Friday, October 19, Noon - 1:30 p.m. Monte Rossa Espresso 327 NW 4th

Friday, October 19, 7:30 - 9 p.m.
Bipartisan Cafe
7901 SE Stark

Saturday, October 20, 1 - 3 p.m.
Espresso Classico
11136 SW Capitol Highway
(at SW Pomona, near PCC Sylvania)

Sunday, October 21, 1:30 - 3 p.m.
Little Red Bike Cafe
4823 N Lombard Street

Little red bike cafe is sooo good

I've added one more coffee house event this weekend:

Sunday, October 21, 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Concordia Coffee House, 2909 NE Alberta Street.

I sure hope folks drop in at one of the options this weekend, as then I'll feel justified in scheduling more.

Yeah, good for you Amanda. I will be at Concordia and very much looking forward to chatting with you.

If the competition is to present a limited survey of Portland cafe society, this is an excellent list - convivial atmospheres, fast wi fi, tunes, decent coffee, not-so-surly staff, geographical diversity, fresh combustibles.

It's a good start to this campaign. Please review the early political performance art career of Barnett Newman and his essential essay, "On the Need for Political Action by Men of Culture" where he astutely argued for more extensive education opportunities, a civic emphasis on arts and crafts, and more and better coffee cafes.

C, did you perchance mean "comestibles"?

If you are planning to burn these places down, I believe I will decline to attend. :-)

Darn Blogtown spellcheck!
