Politics Another Rename in Portland?

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Sun, Nov 18 at 7:05 PM

With the Interstate brouhaha somewhat dying down, I was worried I wouldn’t have any snowballing controversies to write about anymore, at least for awhile.

Good thing someone’s thinking about renaming 42nd Avenue for Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

(Thanks to Vanportlander for the heads up.)

I would be totally down with that. Seriously. I would move just so I could live on Douglas Adams Blvd.

As much as I LOVE Douglas Adams' work - I hate Matt even more.

..... Don't Panic, it's just the end of Democracy, and not the end of life, the universe and everything else.

As the Prophet says "All numbers are good numbers, except number 42, avoid this number, never write it out in letter form - doing so gives it the power of text, never say it out loud - doing so gives it the power of speech, it is a bad number, there is no mystery to this number, shun this number from your dwelling and your thoughts, you will never be 42 years old and have never been, 42 no mystery."

Lets rename Sandy Boulevard to Sandy Duncan Boulevard - a tribute to the visually impaired

How about naming it Chuck Palahniuk Ave?

hows about renaming Killingsworth "Sandra Cisneros St.?" [boo boo hiss hiss]What? what'd I say? She's an author too. Oh, wait...now I get it.

La Lunavenue

The Wipers Blvd.

Cool Nutz Lane

So, has the intent to rename Interstate really died down or are we just being distracted with the 4th thing? I still see this item on the Council agenda for this Wednesday -

1388 Authorize the renaming of Interstate Avenue within the City of Portland to César E. Chávez Boulevard (Second Reading Agenda 1363)

I personally am waiting for a local restaurant to make a "Cesar Chavez" burger.

I am looking to find a street to rename to Ronald Reagan Blvd. By the way, I'm not joking.
